Who builds them right

Suspension, armor, racks, restorations and full builds — the suppliers and shops each platform’s owners actually trust.

TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 1ST GEN SOLID-AXLE LIFT (1984–85)Flexier leaf packs, longer shocks and high-steer turn a solid-axle truck into a proper crawler — Trail-Gear claims up to 20 in of articulation from its Classic kit.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 1ST GEN IFS LIFT & STEERING (1986–89)Ball-joint spacers and torsion bars are the classic budget lift; a stronger idler arm takes the slop out on bigger tyres.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 1ST GEN ARMORBumpers and skids protect the parts that are hardest to replace — and the 1st gen market is small, so buy from people who still make it.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 1ST GEN GEARING & LOCKERSBigger tyres and a 22R-E need help: transfer-case reduction gears and a rear locker are the traditional answers.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 1ST GEN ENGINE REFRESHWhen a 22R-E is worn out, a fresh or stroked long block is cheaper than you'd think — and LC Engineering has built them for decades.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 2ND GEN LONG-TRAVEL IFSFor desert running or serious articulation without going solid axle.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 2ND GEN STEERINGA heavier idler arm and heim steering take the slop out of tired IFS on bigger tyres.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 2ND GEN 3VZ-E RELIABILITYMLS gaskets, head studs and a crossover delete are the owners' recipe for a V6 that stops eating head gaskets.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 2ND GEN PARTS CATALOGUEA 2nd gen-specific catalogue sorted by system saves hours of part-number hunting.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 3RD GEN SUSPENSION LIFTA modest 2–3 in lift and fresh shocks transform a sagging, 25-year-old suspension and make room for 265/75R16s or slightly larger.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 3RD GEN CONTROL ARMS & BALL JOINTSLifted IFS runs out of alignment range, and the stock lower ball joint is the 3rd gen's weak link — fix both at once.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 3RD GEN ARMORRock sliders protect the rockers that rust and dent first; a steel bumper adds a winch mount and approach angle.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 3RD GEN ROOF RACKThe 3rd gen has no rain gutters or full-length rails, so a model-specific rack is the clean way to carry a tent or recovery gear.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 3RD GEN STEERINGUrethane rack bushings take the slop out of tired steering, especially on bigger tires.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 3RD GEN FORCED INDUCTION183 hp feels thin with 32s and a loaded roof. Superchargers for the 5VZ-FE are the classic fix (premium fuel and extra upkeep included).
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 3RD GEN MAINTENANCE PARTSA 3rd gen specialist with timing kits, bushings and OEM parts sorted by system saves hours of part-number hunting.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4TH GEN REAR AIR DELETESwap failing height-control air springs for coils and forget about it.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4TH GEN TIRE CLEARANCEA body-mount chop is what lets 285/70R17s (33s) live on a 4th gen.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4TH GEN ROOF RACKA flat rack for a tent, recovery boards and a spare that won't fit underneath with bigger tyres.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4TH GEN DRIVETRAINRaised diff breathers are cheap insurance before water crossings.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 5TH GEN SUSPENSION LIFTA 2–3 in lift with quality shocks makes room for 33s and fixes the stock nose-down rake.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 5TH GEN UPPER CONTROL ARMSRestore alignment range and ball-joint angle once the front is lifted.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 5TH GEN REAR LOCKER (SR5 / LIMITED)A-TRAC gets you far; a locker gets you up the ledge without drama.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 5TH GEN MID / LONG TRAVELFor desert running, wider arms and bigger shocks — and goodbye to KDSS.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 5TH GEN ROOF RACKRecovery boards, a tent or a spare fuel can need somewhere to live.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 6TH GEN SUSPENSION LIFTLevel the rake or add a couple of inches for bigger rubber; TRD Pro/Trailhunter owners can go further with coilovers.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 6TH GEN UPPER CONTROL ARMSRestore caster and ball-joint angle once the front is lifted.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 6TH GEN REAR GEOMETRYA lifted live axle shifts sideways on its track bar; bump stops keep big tires out of the wheel wells.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER · TOYOTA 4RUNNER 6TH GEN TURBO ENGINE CAREDusty trails and a direct-injected turbo four: keep the intake clean and the crankcase vapour out.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER (1ST GENERATION) SUSPENSION LIFTFresh springs fix sagging 50-year-old leaves and clear 33s or 35s. Offroad Design builds custom-arc springs specifically for 1969–72 GM trucks.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER (1ST GENERATION) LOCKING HUBSTired hubs are a common failure. Stronger aftermarket units are a straight swap on 19-spline Dana 44s.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER (1ST GENERATION) REAR AXLE & LOCKERSThe 12-bolt is a good axle. Gears, lockers and axle shafts are all still made.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER (1ST GENERATION) BODY PANELS & SEALSFloors, rockers, wheelhouses and every rubber seal on the top are reproduced.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER (1973–1991) AXLES & LOCKERSA Dana 60 front and 14-bolt rear from a one-ton is the classic swap. On the stock axles, a locker and deeper gears go a long way.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER (1973–1991) HUBS & SOFT TOPSManual hubs replace seized automatic ones, and a soft top makes it the convertible it was meant to be.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER (1973–1991) DRIVELINE PARTSThese are common GM truck parts, so seals, U-joints and rebuild kits are cheap and easy to find.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET/GMC SUBURBAN (1973–1991 SQUARE BODY) SUSPENSION LIFTMost Suburbans sag. New springs set the ride height, and 3–4 inches clears 33s. ORD sells both custom-arc and budget kits for 1973–91 trucks.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET/GMC SUBURBAN (1973–1991 SQUARE BODY) FRONT AXLE & LOCKERSGears, lockers and wheel-end parts for the 10-bolt front, for anyone fitting bigger tires.
CHEVROLET K5 BLAZER & SUBURBAN · CHEVROLET/GMC SUBURBAN (1973–1991 SQUARE BODY) GEARINGA heavy wagon on big tires needs lower gearing. ORD's Magnum Underdrive adds a lower range ahead of the transfer case.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO (1966–1977) SUSPENSION LIFTNew coils and leaf springs undo decades of sag, and a 2.5–3.5-inch lift clears 31–33-inch tires. Match the C-bushings to the lift height so caster stays positive.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO (1966–1977) STEERINGBigger tires overwhelm the stock linkage, and the 1976–77 Y-link bends. Heavier adjustable tie rods and a modern power box make it track straight.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO (1966–1977) BRAKESFour-wheel drums on a truck with 33s is optimistic. Disc conversions and a better booster are the first real-world upgrade on 1966–75 trucks.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO (1966–1977) AXLES & LOCKERSThe Dana 44 and 9-inch are strong, but bigger tires break axle shafts and an open diff stalls on rocks. Chromoly shafts and a locked 9-inch third member are the usual fixes.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO (1966–1977) DRIVETRAIN SWAPS & COOLINGFive-speed manuals and modern V8s are the restomod staples. An aluminum radiator helps any V8 survive slow trails.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO (1966–1977) RESTOMOD BUILDERSIf you'd rather write a check than weld, these shops build turn-key early Broncos, and their trucks dominate the top of the auction results.
FORD BRONCO · FULL-SIZE BRONCO SUSPENSION LIFTTaller coils up front and longer shackles or springs at the rear make room for 35s. On a TTB truck, plan for camber bushings and radius-arm work at the same time.
FORD BRONCO · FULL-SIZE BRONCO ALIGNMENT & BUSHINGSAdjustable camber/caster sleeves and poly radius-arm bushings are the cheapest way to make a lifted TTB truck drive straight and stop eating tires.
FORD BRONCO · FULL-SIZE BRONCO FRONT AXLE STRENGTHBigger tires find the weak spots in TTB shafts and U-joints, and the aftermarket sells chromoly and CV axle sets for the half-ton Dana 44.
FORD BRONCO · FULL-SIZE BRONCO LOCKERS & GEARSOpen front differentials and tall highway gears were the norm, so a locker and lower gears go together with bigger tires.
FORD BRONCO · FULL-SIZE BRONCO ENGINE SWAPSThis is the restomod route: Coyote and Godzilla swaps at the top of the market, and the older big-block 460 swap for a simpler build.
FORD BRONCO · FULL-SIZE BRONCO RECOVERYA two-ton-plus short-wheelbase truck on 33s or 35s needs a winch and real recovery points before it needs light bars.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO II SUSPENSION LIFTTTB lifts use taller coils, drop brackets for the beam pivots and radius arms, a dropped pitman arm and rear add-a-leafs or blocks. The Ranger Station's builder guides name James Duff and Skyjacker, and warns against bolt-on drop plates for the passenger beam pivot.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO II FENDERS & FLARESBigger tires on a Bronco II mostly come down to fender trimming. Cut-out flares are how the 33- and 35-inch builds on The Ranger Station clear without huge lifts.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO II AXLE SWAPS & GEARSThe Dana 28 is good for about 31-inch tires, so builders swap in an Explorer Dana 35 TTB in front and often an Explorer 8.8 in the rear, then regear both to suit the tires.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO II LOCKERSThe Ranger Station's builder guide lists a Lock-Right (1830-LR) for the 7.5 rear. The Dana 28 front has little support left, which is one more reason to swap to a Dana 35.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO II ENGINE SWAPSA 4.0 V6 from an Explorer is the classic Bronco II upgrade, and a 5.0 V8 is the ambitious one. Adapters, mounts and wiring are well documented.
FORD BRONCO · FORD BRONCO II RECOVERYA small, light truck still needs a winch and real recovery points. The Ranger Station's builder guide sizes a winch at 1.5 times the gross vehicle weight.
FORD BRONCO · BRONCO (SIXTH GENERATION) LEVEL & LIFTA 1.25–2-inch level makes room for 35s on non-Sasquatch trucks. Bigger lifts need attention to CV angles and steering.
FORD BRONCO · BRONCO (SIXTH GENERATION) STEERINGBigger tires load up the tie rods. Ford's own HOSS 3.0 parts and aftermarket heavy-duty rods are the common fix.
FORD BRONCO · BRONCO (SIXTH GENERATION) WHEELS, TIRES & GEARSWheels with about +30 mm offset clear full-width 35s, and 4.46 or 4.7 gears restore the Sasquatch's gearing.
FORD BRONCO · BRONCO (SIXTH GENERATION) ARMOR & BUMPERSThe factory skid plates cover the essentials. A steel bumper, rock rails and extra skids are what you add before the rocks find the rest.
FORD BRONCO · BRONCO (SIXTH GENERATION) RECOVERYFord's modular steel bumper is designed to take a winch; fit real recovery points before you need them.
FORD BRONCO · BRONCO (SIXTH GENERATION) TOPS & DOORSReplacement seals, hardtop parts, soft tops and tube doors fix the Bronco's two weak spots: water and wind.

MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W460 MILD LIFT & SHOCKSA spacer lift and better dampers make room for slightly larger tires without upsetting the geometry.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W460 STEERING & SWAY BAR LINKSStock sway-bar links bend off-road. Heavy-duty spherical links are a cheap insurance policy.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W460 ROOF RACKSA flat platform for a tent, spares and jerry cans. The long-wheelbase roof takes a big one.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W460 LIGHTINGDitch lights on the A-pillars light the trail edges without blinding your spotter.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W460 COOLINGA slow diesel working hard in low range needs every bit of radiator it can get.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W461 RESTOMOD WOLFSTurnkey, fully restored ex-military 250 GD convertibles, with optional OM605/OM606 turbodiesel or LS3 V8 swaps.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W461 MILD LIFT & SHOCKSA little extra clearance and damping for trucks that carry weight on corrugations.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W461 DRIVELINE FOR BIG LIFTSLift a G more than about 4 inches and the front driveshaft angle causes binding and vibration. A double-cardan shaft fixes it.

MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W463 GEOMETRY & BUSHINGSOnce lifted, adjustable Panhard bars re-centre the axles and fresh radius-arm bushings remove wander.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W463 PORTAL AXLESA bolt-on, 4×4²-style conversion: 6 inches of lift and 40 mm more wheel offset.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W463 OVERLAND BUILDS & ARMOURRacks, sliders, skid plates, bumpers and complete builds from G-only shops.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS W463 SERVICE PARTSAxle kits, locker parts and the obscure bits dealers no longer stock.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · 500 GE V8 RESTORATIONWith only 446 built, restoring one to factory spec is worth more than modifying it. Use specialists who do sympathetic G restorations.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · 500 GE V8 SHOCKS & SPRINGSFresh dampers sort out most of the ride on a tired truck. One documented 500 GE runs Bilsteins. Keep the comfort-oriented ride height unless you need the clearance.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · 500 GE V8 W463 PARTSSpecialist suppliers carry service and chassis parts for early W463s, which saves you from hunting through general Mercedes catalogues.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · 500 GE V8 ROOF RACKSA removable platform rack carries gear without drilling a collector's car.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · 500 GE V8 WHEELS & TIRESKeep the factory 16-inch alloys and fit a quality all-terrain of about the same diameter. It's the most useful upgrade you can reverse later.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · EUROPA INTERNATIONAL GS OVERLAND BUILDSComplete G-specific builds with lift, armour, racks, lighting and storage, done as one coherent truck.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · EUROPA INTERNATIONAL GS RESTORATIONSympathetic restorations for owners who want factory-correct, which is where the value premium is.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · EUROPA INTERNATIONAL GS LIFT & SHOCKSLift springs and better shocks to clear 33s and carry overland weight.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · EUROPA INTERNATIONAL GS ROOF RACKS & LADDERSFlat platform racks for tents, recovery gear and spares.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · EUROPA INTERNATIONAL GS BUSH GUARDS & STEPSA brush guard and tucked running boards are common first additions. The 2000 G 500 in an Expedition Portal sale wore an ARB guard, and Jalopnik's 2000 G 500 had a skid plate and tucked steps.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · EUROPA INTERNATIONAL GS WHEELS & TIRESA 33-inch all-terrain on 18-inch wheels at a sensible offset makes the biggest difference for the least money.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 500 OVERLAND BUILDSComplete travel-ready builds: lift, armor, racks, lighting and storage, done as one coherent truck.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 500 RESTORATIONSympathetic restorations of older Gs for owners who want factory-correct, not flashy.

MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 500 WHEELS & TIRESSmaller wheels with taller all-terrain sidewalls — the single most transformative change.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 55 AMG COOLINGOn a Kompressor, cooling is the first upgrade: a higher-flow intercooler pump and optionally a split cooling circuit so the supercharger's loop isn't heated by the engine's.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 55 AMG LIFT & SHOCKSA modest spring lift and better dampers improve clearance and control the weight of a heavy V8 truck off-road.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 55 AMG OVERLAND BUILDSG-specific builders can add armour, racks and lighting without making the AMG look like a costume.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 55 AMG ROOF RACKS & LADDERSFlat platform racks and rear ladders for tents and recovery gear.

MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 55 AMG WHEELS & TIRESSwap the 19s for 18s (where the brakes allow) and fit taller all-terrains. It's the biggest improvement off-road.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 550 LIFT & SHOCKSA 2–3 inch lift with matched shocks clears 33s comfortably and stops a loaded truck sagging.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 550 ROOF RACKS & LADDERSFlat platforms for a tent, recovery boards and fuel — with a wind deflector unless you like whistling.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 550 OVERLAND BUILDSComplete travel-ready builds — lift, armor, racks, lighting, storage — done as one coherent truck.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 550 OFF-ROAD PACKAGESKits that bring 4×4²-style stance and capability to a W463.

MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG WHEELS & TIRESTaller, narrower all-terrains on 20s, or smaller wheels that have been test-fitted over the brakes. This is the biggest off-road improvement for a G 63.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG LIFT & SHOCKSA 60–100 mm spring lift with matched dampers makes room for 33–35-inch tyres and controls a heavy V8 nose.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG PORTAL AXLESBolt-on portal conversions that give a pre-2019 W463 4×4²-style clearance without using the factory truck's parts.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG STEERINGA heavier steering damper and new ends to stop the wander that bigger tyres make worse.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG ROOF RACKS & LADDERSFlat platform racks for tents, recovery boards and fuel.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG OVERLAND BUILDSG-specific builders who add armour, lighting and storage.

MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG 6×6 TUNER PACKAGESBrabus made its own B63S-700 6×6, and those trucks sell for more than standard ones.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG 6×6 ROOF RACKS & LIGHTINGRacks, ladders and light bars for trucks that actually go into the desert.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 63 AMG 6×6 SIX-WHEEL CONVERSIONSIf you want the look without the factory price, there are aftermarket 6×6 conversions of ordinary W463s. They are a different vehicle, so price them as one.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 500 4×4² OFF-ROAD PACKAGESBrabus’ Adventure package is designed specifically for the 4×4² — bodywork, lighting and off-road upgrades.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 500 4×4² ROOF RACKS & LADDERSLong-wheelbase W463 racks fit the 4×4² body — though at 88 inches tall, loading the roof is a ladder job.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 500 4×4² OVERLAND BUILDSTurning a show-pony 4×4² into a self-sufficient travel truck: storage, power, lighting, recovery.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 500 4×4² PORTAL CONVERSIONSCan’t find a factory truck? Builders add portal axles and dual suspension to ordinary W463s — Banyan Motors’ LeTech-equipped G 500 is one example.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G 500 4×4² WHEELS & TIRESDropping from 22s to 18-inch beadlocks with 37-inch mud-terrains is the classic 4×4² move — verify caliper clearance first.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS (SECOND GENERATION) LIFT & SUSPENSIONA 2.5-inch kit clears 33-inch tires, depending on wheel offset, and Eurowise says it works with AMG Ride Control or adaptive suspension.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS (SECOND GENERATION) ROOF RACKSA platform rack for a tent, recovery boards and lights — without blocking the sunroof if you choose carefully.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS (SECOND GENERATION) OVERLAND BUILDSSpecialist shops that turn a G into a travel truck — lift, armor, storage, power and lighting as a package.
MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS · G-CLASS (SECOND GENERATION) WHEELS & TIRESMercedes offered 18-inch all-terrains for a reason: smaller rims and taller sidewalls are the biggest off-road upgrade you can make. Check caliper clearance, especially on G 63s.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER STATION WAGON SUSPENSION LIFTGives room for 285/75s and up, and restores ride height under bumpers, winches and roof tents. Eibach, the factory spring supplier, makes a Pro-Lift set (about +2.5 in. front, +1.2 in. rear). Watch driveshaft angles.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER STATION WAGON STEERINGThe pre-2026 steering is the Grenadier's most common complaint. Owners fit pump upgrades and dampers to improve on-road feel.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER STATION WAGON SPARE TIRE CARRIERTires bigger than about 33 in. crowd the small rear door, wiper and camera. A relocation bracket moves the spare out of the way.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER STATION WAGON ROOF RACKThe roof is rated for 150 kg dynamic and 420 kg static, so it's made for a tent. Front Runner's kit installs with no drilling.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER STATION WAGON BUMPERS & WINCHThere's a factory winch option, but aftermarket bumpers add approach angle, protection and a proper winch mount.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER STATION WAGON ARMORA full-length skid plate protects the transfer case, tank and lines when the Carraro axles are articulating over rocks.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER QUARTERMASTER CANOPY & CAMPERThe bed is a pallet-width box with an upright spare in it. Canopies and canopy campers turn it into secure storage and a bed off the ground. Watch payload.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER QUARTERMASTER SUSPENSION & LOAD SUPPORTRestores ride height under a canopy and gear, and makes room for 34–35 in. tires. The springs and air bags fit both Grenadier bodies.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER QUARTERMASTER ROOF RACKPuts the tent, solar panels or the spare up top and leaves the bed free. The Quartermaster rack bolts to the roll cage, not the gutters.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER QUARTERMASTER STEERINGPre-2026 trucks have the slow, non-self-centring box. Owl sells a $2,150 pump upgrade that it says works on both the Grenadier and the Quartermaster.
INEOS GRENADIER · INEOS GRENADIER QUARTERMASTER TRAY CONVERSIONOutside the US, the cab-chassis plus an aluminium tray gives a flat, wider deck with drawers and water tanks. That's how the Kaiju was built.
AM GENERAL HUMMER H1 · HUMMER H1 LIFTFlash Off-Road reports owners clearing 39.5-inch tires with a 2-inch body lift. Predator's combined 2-inch suspension and 2-inch body lift is meant for tires up to 42 inches. Body lifts need block-off bars to hide the gap at the rear.
AM GENERAL HUMMER H1 · HUMMER H1 6.5 TD RELIABILITYMoving the PMD away from engine heat and improving cooling are the standard fixes for 6.5 turbo diesel stalling and overheating.
AM GENERAL HUMMER H1 · HUMMER H1 ENGINE SWAPSDuramax and Cummins swaps are the established answer to the 6.5's weak spots. Duramax-converted H1s have sold on Bring a Trailer for between $73,000 and $212,500 since 2025.
AM GENERAL HUMMER H1 · HUMMER H1 LOCKERSTorsen II and TorqTrac4 trucks (1999 on) benefit most. AM General sold Eaton E-locker kits to upgrade older trucks, and Flash Off-Road also lists Auburn and ARB lockers as options.
AM GENERAL HUMMER H1 · HUMMER H1 DRIVELINE & BRAKESBigger tires load the halfshafts, hubs and 10.5-inch brakes. The Alpha's 12,100-lb GVW parts are the usual upgrades.
AM GENERAL HUMMER H1 · HUMMER H1 WHEELS & CTISStock-backset wheels and properly routed CTIS lines keep air down and up working on bigger tires.
INTERNATIONAL SCOUT · SCOUT 80 / 800 SUSPENSION & RIDEFresh springs and shackles fix the sag. A reverse-shackle front end tames the forward-shackle chop and makes room for 31s.
INTERNATIONAL SCOUT · SCOUT 80 / 800 TOPS & WEATHERSEALSThe original top-off life is the point of an early Scout. Good seals and a soft top make it bearable when the weather turns.
INTERNATIONAL SCOUT · INTERNATIONAL SCOUT II SUSPENSION LIFTFresh springs and a mild lift undo decades of sag and clear 31–32-inch tires. Reverse shackles improve the ride and the clearance up front.
INTERNATIONAL SCOUT · INTERNATIONAL SCOUT II STEERINGBigger tires overload the steering-box mount and the rag joint. A brace, a Borgeson joint and a rebuilt or hydro-assist box make the truck track straight.
INTERNATIONAL SCOUT · INTERNATIONAL SCOUT II BRAKESEven new, the brakes were the weak link. A rebuilt front end, braided hoses and a bigger booster are the usual fixes.
INTERNATIONAL SCOUT · INTERNATIONAL SCOUT II LOCKERS, GEARS & HUBSThere were no factory lockers, and taller tires need lower gears. Dana 44 parts are shared with half the 4x4 world.
INTERNATIONAL SCOUT · INTERNATIONAL SCOUT II IGNITION & FUELElectronic ignition is the cheapest reliability upgrade for an IH V8, and throttle-body EFI brackets are made for the Scout.
ISUZU TROOPER · ISUZU TROOPER (FIRST GENERATION) SUSPENSION & BUILD PARTSTorsion bars, leaf springs and shocks are 35 years old. Fresh parts restore ride height before you add bigger tires. An Overland Bound member who has owned a first-generation truck calls Independent4x the most readily available source for many Trooper build parts.
ISUZU TROOPER · ISUZU TROOPER (FIRST GENERATION) OEM-STYLE REPLACEMENT PARTSBelts, hoses, hubs, CV axles, brakes and ignition parts for the 2.6 and the V6.
ISUZU TROOPER · ISUZU TROOPER (FIRST GENERATION) WHEELS & TIRESThe 6 x 139.7 mm bolt pattern, with a 100 mm center bore and M12 x 1.5 studs, opens up a wide choice of wheels. Mind the offset: the factory 15 x 6.5 wheel is listed at +3 mm.
ISUZU TROOPER · ISUZU TROOPER (FIRST GENERATION) COMMUNITY TECHTire-fitment charts, hub swaps, engine swaps and parts sourcing live on the Planet Isuzoo forums.
ISUZU TROOPER · ISUZU TROOPER (SECOND GENERATION) SUSPENSION LIFTFresh torsion bars, coils and shocks restore the ride and give about 50 mm of lift for bigger tires. Keep it modest on a truck with this one's reputation.
ISUZU TROOPER · ISUZU TROOPER (SECOND GENERATION) WHEELS & TIRESThe 6 x 139.7 mm bolt pattern with a 100 mm center bore opens up Toyota-pattern wheels. One Overland Bound owner runs 2014 4Runner wheels, and 285/75R16s (about 33 in) fit without a lift.
ISUZU TROOPER · ISUZU TROOPER (SECOND GENERATION) ENGINE: OIL-CONSUMPTION FIXThe lasting cure for a thirsty 3.5 is a rebuild that addresses the pistons' oil control. Planet Isuzoo has threads on doing it during a rebuild.
ISUZU TROOPER · ISUZU TROOPER (SECOND GENERATION) OEM-STYLE REPLACEMENT PARTSTiming kits, gaskets, sensors, CV axles, ball joints and transmission service parts.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-5 SHACKLES & SPRINGSFresh bushings and greaseable shackles fix most of the squeak and slop in a 40-year-old leaf-sprung Jeep. Mild lift shackles add a little clearance.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-5 STEERINGStamped factory steering-box brackets crack with age and big tires. A plate mount is cheap insurance.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-5 AXLES & FRONT ENDA one-piece AMC 20 conversion and fresh ball joints in the Dana 30 are the classic AMC-era driveline upgrades.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-5 FUEL & IGNITIONCarburetor and ignition are where AMC sixes lose their manners. Common fixes are a Weber, throttle-body EFI or a better distributor.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-5 DRIVETRAIN SWAPSGearbox, transfer-case and engine swaps are part of CJ culture. Members on Jeep-CJ.com use adapter kits to fit T-18s and other boxes.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-7 SUSPENSION & SPRING SWAPSOld CJ leaf springs sag and ride like a cart. New springs, shackles and bushings cure it. A popular upgrade is to fit hangers that let you run Wrangler YJ leaf springs.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-7 BUMPERS & ARMORThe factory bumpers are thin. A steel front bumper gives you a winch mount and recovery points, and a rear tube bumper with D-rings protects the tub corners, which tend to rust anyway.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-7 AXLES & LOCKERSPut one-piece shafts in the AMC 20 before you add a locker, or the locker will find the weak keyed hubs quickly.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-7 TRANSFER CASE & GEARINGThe Dana 300 takes a 4:1 low-range gearset, its shifter interlock can be removed for twin-stick operation, and Novak and Advance Adapters can help you swap out a weak T-4 or T-5.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-7 FUEL SYSTEMThe computer-controlled BBD is the 258's weakest link. A Weber 38 kit or Holley's bolt-on Sniper EFI replaces it.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-7 TOPS & BODYA new soft top keeps you drier. Officially licensed replacement panels mean even a rotten tub can be saved.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-8 SCRAMBLER SPRINGS & SHACKLESForty-year-old leaves sag, and a long-wheelbase truck shows it at the back. Fresh OE springs, greaseable shackles and new bushings restore the ride height.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-8 SCRAMBLER STEERINGBoxed CJ frames crack at the steering box. A plate mount spreads the load.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-8 SCRAMBLER AXLES & HUBSA one-piece AMC 20 conversion is the classic Scrambler upgrade. Add fresh ball joints and good manual hubs up front.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-8 SCRAMBLER FUEL & IGNITIONThe feedback Carter BBD and Duraspark are the 258's weak spots. Throttle-body EFI, a Weber or a better distributor sorts them out.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-8 SCRAMBLER TRANSMISSION SWAPSOwners replace the T-5 with stronger gearboxes using adapter kits.
JEEP · JEEP CJ-8 SCRAMBLER TOPS & BODYScrambler tops, tubs and tailgate parts are model-specific. Reproductions keep the truck original.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & CHEROKEE (SJ) FUEL INJECTIONThe most popular drivability upgrade: easier starts and smoother running than an old carburetor.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & CHEROKEE (SJ) SUSPENSION & LIFTFresh leaf packs and shocks cure the wallow, and a modest lift makes room for slightly bigger tires on the trail.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & CHEROKEE (SJ) QUADRA-TRAC REBUILDA fresh chain, seals and the right fluid keep the full-time case quiet instead of replacing it.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & CHEROKEE (SJ) BRAKESStainless lines and good pads help a heavy wagon stop with drums at the back.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & CHEROKEE (SJ) FULL-SIZE JEEP PARTS SPECIALISTSSJ-specific sheet metal, Quadra-Trac parts, trim and weatherstrip that general parts stores no longer carry.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND WAGONEER (SJ) FUEL INJECTIONThe single most popular upgrade: easier starts, smoother running and an end to carburetor tinkering.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND WAGONEER (SJ) SUSPENSION & LIFTFresh leaf springs and shocks fix the wallow. A modest lift makes room for slightly bigger tires on gravel and snow.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND WAGONEER (SJ) COOLINGA carbureted V8, a 30-plus-year-old radiator and a tow hitch make a recipe for boiling over. Heavy-duty radiators and high-flow pumps are cheap insurance.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND WAGONEER (SJ) BRAKESStainless lines and modern pads help a heavy wagon stop on old drum-rear brakes.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND WAGONEER (SJ) RESTOMOD BUILDERSIf you'd rather buy one finished, specialist builders restore and update trucks for about the price of a new SUV.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND WAGONEER (SJ) FULL-SIZE JEEP PARTS SPECIALISTSSJ-specific sheet metal, trim, weatherstrip and drivetrain parts that general parts stores no longer carry.
JEEP · JEEP CHEROKEE XJ SUSPENSION LIFTThe XJ responds well to a modest lift. Coils and add-a-leafs or new packs clear 30–31 in tires, and long-arm kits are for serious rock work.
JEEP · JEEP CHEROKEE XJ TRACK BAR & STEERINGLift moves the axle sideways and loads the steering. An adjustable track bar and heavier linkage keep it straight and wobble-free.
JEEP · JEEP CHEROKEE XJ ROCKER ARMORUnibody rockers are part of the structure. Protect them before the first rock hits.
JEEP · JEEP CHEROKEE XJ COOLINGThe XJ's weak spot, especially in hot climates or with a 2000–01 head you'd like to keep.
JEEP · JEEP CHEROKEE XJ AXLES & LOCKERSRegearing for bigger tires and adding lockers. The 8.25 and Dana 30 are worth building, while many owners replace a Dana 35.
JEEP · JEEP CHEROKEE XJ BUMPERS & RECOVERYStock plastic bumpers don't hold a winch or survive a stump. Steel bumpers add recovery points and approach angle.
JEEP · JEEP COMANCHE MJ AXLES & LOCKERSOwners commonly replace a Dana 35 or build a Dana 44 or 8.25. Comanche Club members say proper gearing makes a 4.0 feel like a V8.
JEEP · JEEP COMANCHE MJ LIGHTINGOriginal sealed beams and tired taillight grounds are a safety issue. Since MJ taillights are hard to find, new ones are worth buying.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER YJ SPRINGS & SUSPENSIONFresh leaf packs and urethane bushings transform a tired YJ, and a mild lift clears 31s. Spring-over-axle conversions are the classic path to bigger tires.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER YJ AXLE DISCONNECT & STEERINGA cable-operated front-axle disconnect removes the vacuum system that strands so many YJs in 2WD.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER YJ GEARS & LOCKERSBigger tires need lower gears, and a locker turns the YJ's short wheelbase into a proper crawler.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER YJ TRANSMISSION & ENGINE SWAPSReplacing a Peugeot BA-10 or dropping a 4.0 into a four-cylinder truck is well-trodden ground, with adapters and mounts off the shelf.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER YJ BUMPERS & WINCHESThe factory bumpers are thin. A steel bumper with a winch mount is the first piece of armor most YJs get.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER YJ ARMOR & SKIDSRocker guards and skid plates protect the tub and the low-slung transfer case.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER YJ TOPS & DOORSHalf doors, a fresh soft top or a hardtop: the YJ is still a convertible at heart.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ZJ SUSPENSION LIFTCoil spacers or a short-arm kit add clearance for 30–31 in tires. Rough Country's 3.5 in kit lowers the transfer case to keep driveline angles in check.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ZJ STEERINGHeavier tie rods and a fresh track bar are the cure for wander and the first defense against death wobble, especially on bigger tires.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ZJ ARMORThe unibody, control-arm mounts and oil pan hang low. Skids protect the parts that hit rocks first.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ZJ COOLINGA bigger radiator gives a V8 or a towing ZJ some margin on hot climbs.
JEEP · JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ZJ TRANSFER CASERebuild the NV249 or swap a tired NP242 for an NP231, the most common ZJ drivetrain change.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER TJ SUSPENSION LIFTThe coil-sprung TJ responds well to a 2–4 inch lift, which clears 33s and gives it more flex. Plan on matching track bars and control arms as you go higher.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER TJ ROCK RAILS & ARMORThe TJ's low tub corners and rockers are the first things to hit rocks. Rails, corner guards and a belly-up skid make the biggest difference.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER TJ BUMPERS & WINCHESA steel front bumper with a winch is cheap insurance on a short-wheelbase rig that wheels alone.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER TJ GEARS, LOCKERS & AXLESNon-Rubicon TJs on bigger tires need lower gears and lockers, and the Dana 35 rear is usually the first thing to replace.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER TJ ENGINE & TRANSMISSION SWAPSFour-cylinder TJs get 4.0 or V8 swaps, and manual swaps and transfer-case upgrades are well documented.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER TJ COOLINGOff Road Xtreme recommends an all-aluminum radiator to replace the leak-prone plastic-tank original, especially as the 4.0 runs warm.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER TJ TOPS & RECOVERYDrivingline prefers a soft top for weight and easy removal, and every trail TJ needs recovery points.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED (LJ) BELLY SKID / TUMMY TUCKThe LJ's low transfer-case skid is the first thing to drag. A high-clearance skid tucks it up into the frame.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED (LJ) SUSPENSION LIFT2–4 inches clears 33s. Above 2 inches, budget for an adjustable track bar, alignment correction and an SYE with a CV driveshaft.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED (LJ) LOCKERSNon-Rubicon LJs have only a rear limited slip. Selectable lockers turn an LJ Sport into most of a Rubicon.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED (LJ) ARMOR: BUMPERS, CORNERS, SLIDERSThe long rear overhang and the plastic corners are what get hurt. Steel rear corners and rocker sliders are standard trail kit.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED (LJ) FRAME REPAIRRust Buster sells bolt-up-and-weld replacement sections for the TJ's known rot zones.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED (LJ) AXLE TRUSS & PROTECTIONBigger tires bend the Dana 30 front tubes first. Trusses and diff guards are cheap insurance.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER JK (2-DOOR) SUSPENSION LIFT2.5–3.5 inches with proper geometry (track bar, control arms or brackets) clears 35s without inviting death wobble.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER JK (2-DOOR) BALL JOINTS & STEERINGHeavy-duty ball joints, tie rods and a correctly sized track bar are the cure for a front end that wears out under big tires.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER JK (2-DOOR) AXLE ARMORThe Dana 30 front is the weak link once you go to 35s. Gussets and a truss stop the C's bending.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER JK (2-DOOR) BUMPERS & WINCHSteel bumpers with a winch mount are the JK's signature mod; the Call of Duty and Moab editions came with AEV-style ones from the factory.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER JK (2-DOOR) ROCK SLIDERSThe factory rock rails on Rubicons are fine. Other trims have nothing to protect the sills.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER JK (2-DOOR) LOCKERSNon-Rubicon JKs rarely got a factory locker. Air lockers add front and rear.
JEEP · JEEP WRANGLER JK (2-DOOR) ALUMINUM OIL FILTER HOUSINGThe permanent fix for the Pentastar's plastic housing.
JEEP · WRANGLER JK UNLIMITED SUSPENSION LIFT2.5–3.5 inches with matched coils and shocks clears 35s and can be specced for a loaded overland truck. Correct the track-bar and control-arm geometry, or death wobble will remind you.
JEEP · WRANGLER JK UNLIMITED STEERING & TRACK BARSHeavier tie rods, drag links and adjustable track bars keep big tires pointed where you want them and keep the front end tight.
JEEP · WRANGLER JK UNLIMITED AXLES & GEARSRegear after going to 35s, especially on 3.8 trucks. Then truss the front, or replace it with something stronger.
JEEP · WRANGLER JK UNLIMITED SNORKELThe stock intake draws from the fender. A snorkel lifts it above the dust and spray.
JEEP · WRANGLER JK UNLIMITED BUMPERS & RECOVERYA winch-ready steel front bumper is the usual first armor buy. Count its weight against the payload.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL SUSPENSION LIFTA 2–2.5-inch lift restores the up-travel you'd lose to bump-stop spacers and clears 35s on any trim. Correct the geometry with brackets or adjustable arms.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL STEERINGHeavier tie rods, drag links and an adjustable track bar keep big tires in line, which matters more on the twitchy short wheelbase.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL LOCKERS & GEARSSport and Sahara owners add lockers and regear for 35s; Rubicons usually only need gears.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL ARMOROn a short wheelbase you hit fewer rockers but more bumpers. Steel bumpers and skid plates come first.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL SNORKELMoves the intake above the dust and water. Hagerty says the 2024 truck can wade up to 34 inches.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL ROOF RACKThe two-door has very little cargo space, so gear goes on the roof. Keep it light.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL UNLIMITED HEAVY-LOAD SUSPENSIONAn overland four-door needs springs for its real weight. Heavy-load kits keep the ride height and up-travel once the drawers and fridge go in.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL UNLIMITED LOCKERS & GEARSNon-Rubicon trucks on 35s want lockers and lower gears; the M220 and M210 take ARB Air Lockers.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL UNLIMITED SNORKELRaises the intake out of dust and water, especially useful on long desert trips.
JEEP · WRANGLER JL UNLIMITED BUMPERS & RECOVERYThe 2024 factory Warn winch covers recovery. For earlier trucks, a winch-ready steel bumper is the usual first purchase.
JEEP · JEEP GLADIATOR JT BED RACKSThe five-foot bed is the Gladiator's party trick. A rack carries a tent, awning or recovery gear above it.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & GRAND WAGONEER (WS) SUSPENSION LIFT (COIL TRUCKS ONLY)Levels the factory rake and adds clearance on trucks without Quadra-Lift. Air-sprung trucks can't use it.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & GRAND WAGONEER (WS) ALL-TERRAIN TIRESHighway tires on 20s and 22s are the weak link on gravel. The Advanced All-Terrain Group's 18-inch all-terrains are the size to copy.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & GRAND WAGONEER (WS) 18-INCH WHEELSSmaller wheels mean more sidewall for airing down. The 6x139.7 pattern and 77.8 mm center bore are listed by fitment sites, but check brake clearance before you buy.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & GRAND WAGONEER (WS) FACTORY ARMOR & RECOVERYThe Advanced All-Terrain Group added steel skid plates for the front suspension, transfer case, fuel tank and rear stabilizer, plus front tow hooks. They're the parts to look for on a used truck or to add from Mopar.
JEEP · JEEP WAGONEER & GRAND WAGONEER (WS) TOWINGThis is what the WS does best. Add the factory trailer brake controller if it's missing, and use a deep drop hitch because the receiver sits high.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER J20 / J25 (FJ25) FJ25-SPECIFIC PARTSSpecter Off-Road is one of the few suppliers with an FJ25 section, from pedal pads and clutch slave boots to used bellhousings. Check its discontinued items before you strip anything you can't replace.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER J20 / J25 (FJ25) F-ENGINE & SERVICE PARTSGaskets, ignition parts, thermostats and fuel pumps listed from 1958 for F-engined Land Cruisers. They're catalogued for FJ40s, so confirm fit for a 25.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER J20 / J25 (FJ25) COOLINGOld radiators are expensive to re-core. Owners report later OEM and Cool Cruisers of Texas radiators fitting FJ25s if originality isn't the priority.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER J20 / J25 (FJ25) ENGINE REBUILDSpecter still lists standard and oversize flat-top F pistons and a valve regrind set for 1958-on Siamese-port F engines, which is what keeps original engines running instead of being replaced by a 2F.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER J20 / J25 (FJ25) RESTORATION SPECIALISTSFor a full nut-and-bolt restoration, early-Land Cruiser specialists have the knowledge that a general shop won't have.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ40 SUSPENSION LIFTFresh springs and shocks fix the sag and harsh ride of 40-year-old leaves, and 2 inches clears 33s more comfortably. Greaseable anti-inversion shackles stop the rear shackle flipping over center.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ40 DISC BRAKESPre-1976 trucks stop on four drums. A front disc conversion is the single biggest safety upgrade.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ40 STEERINGFactory steering boxes develop play, and manual steering is heavy on big tires. A Saginaw conversion is the common fix.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ40 ROLL CAGE & ARMORThe factory roll bar is a start. Full cages, overhead bars and tube doors add protection for rock work.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ40 RESTORATION & OEM PARTSBody panels, seals, knuckle kits and trim keep a 40-plus-year-old truck original and on the trail.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ40 BUILDS & RESTOMODSFor a full rebuild, specialist shops build everything from stock restorations to modern-drivetrain FJ40s.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ45 / FJ55 SUSPENSIONFresh springs and shocks are the biggest ride and safety improvement on a truck with tired 40-year-old leaves.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ45 / FJ55 DISC BRAKESEarly trucks run four-wheel drums. Kits cover FJ40, FJ45 and FJ55 from 1970 to 1980.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ45 / FJ55 CARBURETOR & TUNE-UPA correctly matched rebuild kit fixes most driveability problems on the F and 2F.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ45 / FJ55 RESTORATION PARTSTrim, glass seals and body parts are scarce; specialists are the best hope.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ60 SUSPENSION LIFTNew springs restore ride height and ride quality, and 2 inches makes 33s much easier to live with.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ60 FIVE-SPEED SWAPThe H55F's overdrive fifth cuts highway rpm by about 500 at 75 mph.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ60 KNUCKLES & STEERINGFresh knuckle seals stop the sludge, and a good damper calms the front end.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ60 OEM & RESTORATION PARTSWeatherstrip, bumpers, heater cores and trim keep a 40-year-old wagon tight and dry.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ60 RESTOMODSFor a modern drivetrain and interior in the FJ60 body, specialist shops build complete trucks.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ62 SUSPENSION LIFTFresh springs and shocks restore ride height and quality; 2 inches makes 33s easier to fit.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ62 MANUAL CONVERSIONAn H55F five-speed swap for owners who want three pedals.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ62 KNUCKLES & DRIVELINEKnuckle seals and bearings stop the sludge and keep the front end tight.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ62 OEM & RESTORATION PARTSWeatherstrip, liftgate struts, bumpers and trim keep the cabin dry and quiet.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER FJ62 RESTOMODSComplete builds with modern drivetrains, interiors and suspension.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 70 SERIES SUSPENSION & GVMMany 70s are either overloaded or riding on springs rated for loads they never carry. Matching the springs to the real load, or fitting a GVM upgrade, fixes ride and safety. A coil conversion is the expensive way to fix both ride and track width at once.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 70 SERIES LOCKERSFactory lockers were only offered in some markets. Selectable air or electric lockers turn an open-diff 70 into a proper rock truck.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 70 SERIES SEATS & SOUND DEADENINGUnsealed's fix for the cabin: thicker seat covers (Black Duck's add about 20 mm of padding), or full replacement seats, plus sound-deadening mats.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 70 SERIES BUMPERS & ARMORA winch bumper up front and a swing-out at the back are the standard build for a working or touring 70.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 70 SERIES SNORKEL & INTAKERaises the intake for water crossings and dusty roads, and pairs well with a properly sealed airbox on the V8.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 70 SERIES OEM & REBUILD PARTSFor imported trucks in North America, specialist Land Cruiser parts houses are the easiest route to genuine and OEM-supplier parts.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 80 SERIES SUSPENSION LIFTA 2–3 inch lift with fresh coils and shocks restores ride height lost to sag and armor, and clears 33s. Bigger lifts need correction parts such as adjustable links and longer brake lines.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 80 SERIES LOCKERSOnly some 1993–97 trucks got factory lockers. Air lockers are the usual way to add selectable lockers to an open-diff truck, and are cheaper than retrofitting the factory ones.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 80 SERIES ARMOR: SLIDERS & BUMPERSThe factory running boards dent on the first rock, and the long rear overhang drags. Sliders, a winch bumper and a swing-out rear bumper are the standard build.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 80 SERIES SNORKELThe stock intake is in the passenger front fender. A snorkel moves it to the roofline for water crossings and dust.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 80 SERIES STORAGE & SLEEPINGMany owners pull the third row and fit drawers with a fridge slide. Add a bed extension and Slee's guide says you get a flat bed of roughly 180 × 145 cm.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 80 SERIES OEM & REBUILD PARTSKnuckle kits, seals, bearings, steering and driveline parts in OEM or OEM-supplier quality, which is what keeps a 30-year-old 80 on the trail.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 90 SUSPENSION LIFTFresh springs and shocks undo 25 years of sag. Diesels need heavier front springs than V6 trucks, and Dobinsons makes a Prado-95 diesel setup for exactly that.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 90 BUMPERS & SLIDERSThere isn't much aftermarket armor for the 90 in the US, which is why Coastal Offroad's weld-together kits come up on IH8MUD. One owner warns that their rear bumper only fits five-doors.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 90 LOCKERSThe J90 has a center lock and nothing else, at least in Australian spec. Air lockers turn it into a proper trail truck.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 90 COOLING (DIESELS)Keeping a 1KZ-TE cool keeps its head in one piece: an OEM-spec radiator and a healthy viscous fan come first.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 90 TRANSMISSIONThe 4-speed automatic is an A340-family box, and HD Automotive sells a heavy-duty valve body kit for it.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 90 OEM & REBUILD PARTSBall joints, brakes and axle rebuild kits listed specifically for the 9x Prado.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 100 SERIES SUSPENSION LIFTFresh torsion bars, coils and shocks undo years of sag and clear 33s. Getting the front and rear heights to match the truck's load is most of the job.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 100 SERIES ROCK SLIDERS & ARMORThe factory running boards bend on the first rock, and the IFS front end appreciates a skid plate.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 100 SERIES LOCKERSOnly 1998–99 trucks offered a factory rear locker. Air lockers add front and rear lockers to the rest.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 100 SERIES SNORKELThe stock intake is in the passenger front fender. Slee notes that on US trucks the power antenna has to be swapped for a whip antenna to fit a snorkel.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 100 SERIES STORAGE & SLEEPINGPull the third row, fit drawers with a fridge slide and add a bed extension: the same recipe as the 80.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 100 SERIES OEM & REBUILD PARTSTiming-belt kits, ball joints, wheel bearings and suspension in OEM or OEM-supplier quality.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 120 SUSPENSION LIFTCoil-sprung 120s take the usual 2-in kits, and aftermarket upper control arms help restore alignment range at lifted heights.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 120 REAR AIR DELETESwapping tired air springs for coils is cheaper than new air parts, and it makes a lift straightforward.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 120 LOCKERSThe Torsen center and traction control do a lot, but nothing beats a real locked axle on a cross-axle climb.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 120 TRANSMISSIONThe four-speed automatic is an A340-family box, and HD Automotive sells a heavy-duty valve body kit for the Prado 120 version.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 120 OEM & REBUILD PARTSBall joints, hubs, CV axles, rack boots and bushings listed for the 120 Series and GX 470.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 200 SERIES SUSPENSION LIFTA two- to three-inch lift with better shocks clears 285/70s and bigger. On KDSS trucks, close the valves afterward. Many IH8MUD builds pair a lift with aftermarket upper control arms.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 200 SERIES ROCK SLIDERS & SKIDSThe running boards are decoration. Sliders protect the rockers, and a full skid set protects the IFS, engine and transmission.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 200 SERIES GEARS & LOCKERSBigger tires dull the 3.30-geared eight-speed in particular. Re-gearing to 4.88 and adding selectable lockers is the classic 200 build.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 200 SERIES BUMPERS & WINCHA winch-capable front bumper, plus a rear bumper with a tire carrier to free up cargo space.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 200 SERIES SNORKELRaises the intake for water crossings and dust; IH8MUD's technical FAQ includes a Safari snorkel install. On diesels, pair it with a properly sealed airbox.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 200 SERIES OEM & REBUILD PARTSWater pumps, air-injection parts, filters and suspension in OEM or OEM-supplier quality.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · TOYOTA FJ CRUISER SUSPENSION LIFTA 2.5–3 inch lift with better shocks clears 285/70R17s on factory wheels. Kits are split by 2007–09 and 2010–14 trucks, so buy for your year.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · TOYOTA FJ CRUISER UPPER CONTROL ARMSLifting the IFS runs out of caster and makes the truck wander. Aftermarket arms with extra caster restore alignment and add droop.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · TOYOTA FJ CRUISER TIRE CLEARANCEA body mount chop is what lets 33s and bigger live in an FJ's front wheel wells.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · TOYOTA FJ CRUISER ARMORThe rockers and the front of the truck take the hits. Sliders double as steps, and a full skid set protects the IFS, engine and transmission.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · TOYOTA FJ CRUISER REAR LINKS & TRACK BARStronger links and an adjustable track bar re-center the axle after a lift and survive rock hits better than the stock parts.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · TOYOTA FJ CRUISER FRONT LOCKER & GEARSThe factory rear locker is half the job. A Harrop E-Locker in the front diff and lower gears for bigger tires finish it.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · TOYOTA FJ CRUISER FRAME REPAIR & RUSTOn salt-belt trucks, frame repair comes before any build. Weld-in sections for the rails, crossmembers and coil buckets.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 150 SUSPENSIONFactory shocks are soft and often tired by 100,000 km. A quality replacement kit fixes the ride when loaded for touring, and a modest lift clears slightly bigger tires.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 150 ARMOR & SLIDERSThe sills and bash plates are what take the hits off-road. Platform-shared GX 460 sliders and skids are a starting point. Confirm Prado bumper fitment.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 150 BULL BARS & RECOVERYAustralian-style bars carry a winch and lights and protect the front end from wildlife. Auto Buyers Guide notes bars, snorkels and dual batteries add value on a used 150.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 150 ROOF RACKS & TOURINGFlat racks, awnings and fridge setups are what 150s are bought for in Australia.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER PRADO 150 SERVICE PARTSFilters, gaskets and drivetrain seals for the J150 platform.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 250 SERIES SUSPENSION LIFTA 1.25–3 inch lift with better dampers clears 33s easily and 35s with some trimming, and it handles the weight of armor and gear.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 250 SERIES ARMOR: SLIDERS & SKIDSThe 250 is long and low between the axles. Frame-mounted sliders and a proper front skid protect the rockers and the radiator area.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 250 SERIES WINCH BUMPERA winch bumper gives you recovery points and a place for a winch. Slee says its LC250 bumper keeps the Safety Sense sensors working (except front cross-traffic).
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 250 SERIES FUEL RANGE17.9 gallons is the 250's biggest limit for remote travel. The tank on Slee's AT37 build holds 29 gallons and has an integrated skid.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 250 SERIES FRONT LOCKERCenter and rear lockers come standard. Adding a front locker gives you all three, which only the top 300 Series and LX trims get from the factory.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 250 SERIES ALL-IN-ONE BUILDSIf you'd rather buy it done, Slee builds complete LC250s, from bolt-on dealer packages to the Arctic Trucks AT37 conversion.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 300 SERIES ARMOR: SKIDS & SLIDERSSkids and rock sliders are the first job on any 300 or LX that leaves the pavement. Make sure sliders match your suspension (AHC or not).
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 300 SERIES BUMPERS & RECOVERYA winch bumper gives you a winch mount, and aftermarket recovery points give you rated places to attach a strap.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 300 SERIES PORTAL AXLESThe extreme route to 37s: portal hubs lift the truck without touching the suspension geometry. IH8MUD has several LX builds on portals, and Slee runs one.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 300 SERIES LOCKERSStandard 300s and LX 600s have only a center lock. Adding front and rear lockers matches a GR Sport or LX 700h Overtrail.
TOYOTA LAND CRUISER · LAND CRUISER 300 SERIES STORAGE & SLEEPINGOwners pull the third row and fit drawers and a fridge slide for overland trips.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER SERIES I–III PARTS & RESTORATIONSeals, swivel kits, brakes, wiring and panels: the catalogues Series owners actually order from on both sides of the Atlantic.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER SERIES I–III GEARBOX & TRANSMISSIONWorn first and second gears and tired transfer boxes are the classic Series drivetrain complaints; rebuilt units and uprated parts exist.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER SERIES I–III GALVANISED CHASSISWhen the rear crossmember, outriggers and rails have all been patched, a hot-dip galvanised frame ends the argument.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER SERIES I–III SOFT TOPS, SEATS & TRIMCanvas, seats and door tops wear out; LRO has a video on fitting an Exmoor Trim soft top to an ex-military Series III.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER SERIES I–III ROLL CAGES & PROTECTIONA Series has no crash structure to speak of; external and internal cages are the sensible addition for trail use.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER 90 / 110 / DEFENDER SUSPENSION LIFTStock springs sag with age and accessories. Heavier springs and better shocks restore ride height and add an inch or two for 255/85 tyres.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER 90 / 110 / DEFENDER LOCKERS & DIFFSOpen diffs front and rear; an air locker or ATB limited-slip transforms progress on articulated ground.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER 90 / 110 / DEFENDER TRANSFER BOX & DRIVELINERebuilt or brand-new LT230s, taller ratios for big tyres, ATB centre diffs and heavy-duty 300M shafts.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER 90 / 110 / DEFENDER PARTS & RESTORATIONSeals, swivel kits, panels, NAS-specific trim, timing kits: these are the US and UK catalogues the community actually uses.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER 90 / 110 / DEFENDER GALVANISED CHASSISWhen the frame is past welding, a hot-dip galvanised replacement chassis is the permanent fix.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER 90 / 110 / DEFENDER ROLL CAGES & PROTECTIONThe NAS trucks wore cages from the factory; external and internal cages are a common addition for serious trail use.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DEFENDER (L663) ROCK SLIDERS, LADDERS & PROTECTIONSills and rear corners are the first things a 110 hits; Terrafirma's sliders with tree bars and rear ladder are popular L663 fits.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DEFENDER (L663) ACCESSORIES & SPARE-WHEEL KITSpare-wheel mounting kits, security and trim parts aimed squarely at the L663.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DEFENDER (L663) BULL BARS & RADIATOR PROTECTIONThe auxiliary radiators behind the front intakes are vulnerable to stones; an Australian owner points to Offroad Animal's Toro bar as one that protects them.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DEFENDER (L663) ALL-TERRAIN TYRESBFGoodrich KO2 and General Grabber AT3 are owner favourites; the Grabber AT3 is listed in Land Rover's own iGuide and is 3PMSF-rated.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DEFENDER (L663) US PARTS & BUILDSNorth America's big Land Rover parts house runs L663 builds, including an OCTA on 35-inch tyres with a winch bumper.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES I SUSPENSION LIFTSprings sag after 25-plus years. Longer springs and shocks restore height and add room for 245/75s or 33s.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES I TRANSFER BOX & DIFFSAn ATB centre differential in the LT230 removes much of the driveline backlash; uprated shafts and lockers suit bigger tyres.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES I RUST REPAIR PANELSSills, floors and body mounts are the Disco 1's weak point; repair panels are the difference between a project and a scrapper.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES I GALVANISED CHASSISWhen the frame is thin everywhere, a galvanised replacement is the permanent fix; LandyZone members have priced Maer's 300Tdi frame.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES I PARTS & ACCESSORIESSwivels, couplers, seals and trim: US and UK catalogues that still list Disco 1 parts.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES II SUSPENSION LIFTTwo inches with stiffer springs and longer shocks clears 265/75s and restores sagging trucks; 3-inch kits need more work on props and geometry.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES II AIR-TO-COIL CONVERSIONReplaces leaking SLS air springs and a tired compressor with coils, at stock height or lifted.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES II CENTRE DIFF LOCKEarly trucks have the lock but no lever; a linkage kit gives you a proper locked centre diff for mud and steep climbs.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES II ARMOURSills are low and soft; sliders protect them and the body behind.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES II PROPSHAFTSLifted trucks need more angle than the stock rubber coupler and non-greasable double-cardan joint like to give.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES II CHASSIS & RUST REPAIRRear chassis sections, crossmembers, sills and body mounts are what keep a Disco 2 on the road.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR3 / DISCOVERY 3 LIFT RODS & HEIGHT TUNINGLonger height-sensor links trick the air suspension into running about 2–2.5 in higher with no electronics. A diagnostic tool can do the same in software and calibrate the sensors after repairs.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR3 / DISCOVERY 3 COIL CONVERSIONFor owners who want to stop chasing air leaks: coil springs and dampers replace the air struts, with a module to keep the warning lights off.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR3 / DISCOVERY 3 UNDERBODY ARMORSkid plates for the sump, gearbox and fuel tank, because the independent suspension leaves more of the underside exposed than a beam-axle truck.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR3 / DISCOVERY 3 BUSHESPolyurethane bushes outlast the factory rubber on a heavy truck, especially in the front lower arms.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR3 / DISCOVERY 3 ROOF RACK & LADDERThe flat roof takes a full-length platform rack; the truck in our photos wears a Front Runner rack and a rear ladder.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR3 / DISCOVERY 3 PARTS & ACCESSORIESUS and UK catalogues with deep LR3 coverage, from height sensors to transfer-box motors.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR4 / DISCOVERY 4 SUSPENSION LIFTLonger height-sensor links trick the air suspension into riding about 2.5 in higher with no programming. Coil conversions trade air's adjustability for simplicity.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR4 / DISCOVERY 4 UNDERBODY ARMOR & SLIDERSThe LR4's low-slung sills, fuel tank and air compressor are exposed on rocks. Frame-mounted sliders and aluminium bash plates fix that.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR4 / DISCOVERY 4 WINCH BUMPERA steel front bumper adds a winch mount and recovery points while keeping the approach angle usable.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR4 / DISCOVERY 4 ROOF RACKSThe LR4's long, flat roof is made for a full-length rack; Land Rover rates it for 75 kg (165 lb) including the rack.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR4 / DISCOVERY 4 COOLING UPGRADESAluminium replacements for the plastic crossover pipes and manifolds are the most popular reliability mod on both engines.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR4 / DISCOVERY 4 DIAGNOSTICSAir-suspension calibration and matching the software to a replacement compressor need more than an OBD-II reader.
LAND ROVER SERIES & DEFENDER · LAND ROVER LR4 / DISCOVERY 4 18-INCH WHEELSDropping from 19s or 20s to 18s buys sidewall for airing down and far more all-terrain and mud-terrain tyre choices.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 450 SUSPENSION LIFTA mild lift with better shocks gets you on 33s without rubbing. Adjustable rear links and caster plates keep the geometry right as you go taller.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 450 LOCKERSIf the truck didn't come with factory lockers, air lockers are cheaper than retrofitting the electric ones, and the OEM switch and dash lights can be wired to run them.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 450 ROCK SLIDERSThe cladding and running boards are fragile and the rocker panels are expensive. Frame-mounted sliders protect both and still work as a step.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 450 BUMPERS & SWING-OUTSA real front bumper carries a winch and protects the radiator. A rear bumper with a swing-out carrier lifts a full-size spare off the ground.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 450 SNORKELThe stock air intake is in the passenger front fender. A snorkel moves it to roof height for water crossings. Slee says to fit one for wading, not for the debated performance gains.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 450 MAINTENANCE PARTSAt this age the knuckles, hoses and seals matter more than the accessories. Specialist shops stock kits by chassis.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 470 SUSPENSION & AHCAdjust the AHC sensors for a lift, refresh the fluid and globes, or convert to conventional springs. Whichever route you take, adjustable rear links keep the rear axle centered once the truck is lifted.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 470 ROCK SLIDERSThe cladding and running boards are expensive to replace. Sliders that bolt to the frame protect the rockers and can still work as steps.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 470 BUMPERS & SWING-OUTSA modular front bumper protects the radiator and carries a winch, which matters on a truck this heavy. A rear bumper with swing-outs moves the spare up and out of the way.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 470 SKID PLATESThe IFS front differential and the transfer case sit low and exposed.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 470 SNORKELThe stock intake is in the passenger fender. On US-spec trucks Slee notes the power antenna has to be swapped for a whip antenna.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 470 MAINTENANCE PARTSTiming-belt kits, idlers, cam seals and plugs, stocked by people who know the chassis.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 570 ROCK SLIDERSThe aluminum running boards and AHC lines live along the rockers. Real sliders protect both.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 570 BUMPERS & SWING-OUTSThe LX has its own front end, so it needs an LX-specific front bumper. The rear is shared with the Land Cruiser.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 570 SKID PLATES & GUARDSThe factory plastic won't stop a rock. Bash plates and a catalytic-converter guard protect the expensive parts underneath.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 570 REAR LINKSAdjustable links let you re-center the rear axle and correct pinion angle once ride height changes.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 570 LOCKERSUS trucks came without axle lockers. Air lockers add front and rear locking without touching the AHC.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 570 RECOVERYNearly three tons of truck needs a winch on a proper bumper and recovery points rated for the job.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 600 SUSPENSION & CONTROL ARMSUpper and lower arms correct geometry after a lift and give bigger tires room.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 600 BUMPERS, SKIDS & SLIDERSThe LX 600 has a big, expensive nose and soft underbody protection. Frame-mounted sliders and a full skid set are the first armor to fit.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 600 ROOF RACKSA flat platform for a tent, recovery boards and lights.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS LX 600 WHEELS & TIRESSwapping the 22s for 18s or 20s is the biggest single capability upgrade you can make.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 470 SUSPENSION LIFTThe factory front springs are soft, and a 2–3 in lift is the usual step up to 33-in tires.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 470 REAR AIR: COIL CONVERSION OR REPAIRThis retires the aging air bags and compressor for good, or replaces them if you want to keep the self-leveling.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 470 SKID PLATESThe factory underbody protection is thin, and the oil pan, transfer case and fuel tank sit right in the line of fire.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 470 ROCK SLIDERSThe factory running boards are about 30 lb of rock magnet. Real sliders protect the rockers and still work as a step. Get KDSS-specific instructions if your truck has it.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 470 BUMPERS & SWING-OUTSLow-profile bumpers improve approach angle, and a swing-out rear carrier gets a full-size spare out from under the truck.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 470 STEERING & FRONT ENDAt this age, racks, lower control arms and CV axles are wear items. OEM reman parts are the forum favorite over cheap new aftermarket.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 470 RECOVERYA winch on a proper bumper, plus a jack that can still lift a lifted truck on big tires.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 460 SUSPENSION LIFTA 2–3 in lift is the usual first step to 33s. Convert rear air to coils first, and plan for upper control arms if you go bigger.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 460 REAR COIL CONVERSIONRetires the aging rear air springs and makes a lift possible.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 460 SKID PLATESThe factory plastic won't stop a rock. Front, transmission, transfer-case and gas-tank skids are now available for the 460.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 460 ROCK SLIDERSProtect the rockers, and the expensive doors above them, on ledges.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 460 BUMPERS & SWING-OUTSBetter approach angles and winch mounting up front, plus a swing-out rear carrier for a full-size spare.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 460 ROOF RACKSA low flat rack keeps the GX garageable and gives you room for a tent, Maxtrax and lights.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 460 BODY MOUNT CHOPNeeded for really big tires. It trims the front body mount so a 35 clears at full lock.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 550 SUSPENSION & CONTROL ARMSLeveling and arms let you run 33–35s without rubbing and give back some droop.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 550 BUMPERS & ARMORThe Overtrail nose was styled with aftermarket bumpers and winch mounts in mind. Skids and sliders follow.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 550 ROOF RACKSA flat rack makes room for a tent and recovery gear while keeping the GX garageable.
LEXUS LX & GX · LEXUS GX 550 TIRES275/70R18 is the popular no-lift step up from the factory 33s.
MITSUBISHI PAJERO / MONTERO · PAJERO / MONTERO (FIRST GENERATION) OEM & SERVICE PARTSFilters, steering joints, brakes and hub parts for US trucks, sorted by engine. Raider parts are the same as the Montero's.
MITSUBISHI PAJERO / MONTERO · PAJERO / MONTERO (FIRST GENERATION) TIMING CHAIN KITSA two-chain kit (timing and balance shaft) with guides and tensioners is the standard cure for a rattling 4G54.
MITSUBISHI PAJERO / MONTERO · PAJERO / MONTERO (FIRST GENERATION) UPGRADES & HOW-TOSPractical upgrades for Raiders and first-generation Monteros, including an electric fuel pump conversion.
MITSUBISHI PAJERO / MONTERO · PAJERO / MONTERO (SECOND GENERATION) SUSPENSION LIFTFresh torsion bars, rear coils and shocks fix the saggy nose and make room for 31s and up. Match the spring rates front to rear.
MITSUBISHI PAJERO / MONTERO · PAJERO / MONTERO (SECOND GENERATION) UPRATED TORSION BARSThe Pajero's front springs are its torsion bars. Uprated bars hold ride height under a bull bar and winch without cranking tired factory bars further.
MITSUBISHI PAJERO / MONTERO · PAJERO / MONTERO (SECOND GENERATION) OEM & SERVICE PARTSTiming-belt parts, steering joints, brake hoses and filters for US Monteros, organised by engine.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 60 SERIES SUSPENSIONForty-year-old springs sag. A restorer's 2-inch-lift Alcan set matched the stock eye-to-eye length and cleared narrow 7.50x16s.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 60 SERIES FREE-WHEELING HUBSPeriod Warn hubs were a US dealer option. Fitting them on an early truck means upgrading the speedometer drive.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 60 SERIES RUST PROOFINGSeams weren't sealed from the factory. Restorers coat the inside of the frame and every body seam.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 60 SERIES ENGINE & BRAKE SERVICE PARTSGasket sets, plugs, hoses and drum hardware are catalogued for the 1967 Patrol 4.0.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 160 / MQ SUSPENSION LIFTFresh 2-inch springs and shocks fix sag and clear 33s. Owners recommend lift springs over resetting tired originals, and over shackle extensions on road trucks.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 160 / MQ LOCKERSA rear locker is the biggest traction upgrade, but the MQ's H233 isn't the GQ's H233B, so check the application.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 160 / MQ BREATHERSFactory breathers end low and the gearbox and transfer share a tube. Running separate lines high is cheap insurance against water in the oil.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 160 / MQ DUAL BATTERY & CHARGINGOne MK owner's truck had a 50-amp alternator. Owners upgrading for a second battery fit a higher-output alternator and a smart isolator such as REDARC.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL 160 / MQ SWIVEL HUBS & BEARINGSFresh kingpin bearings and seals are the cure for weeping, wandering front ends.
NISSAN PATROL · NISSAN PATROL Y60 (GQ) SUSPENSION LIFTA 2-inch coil lift is the standard GQ upgrade, and it's what makes 33s livable. Pair it with caster-correction bushes, longer brake lines and a rear proportioning-valve adjustment.
NISSAN PATROL · NISSAN PATROL Y60 (GQ) LOCKERSA rear LSD is good; selectable lockers are better. ARB Air Lockers are the usual retrofit at both ends, so make sure you know whether your rear diff is an H233 or an H260.
NISSAN PATROL · NISSAN PATROL Y60 (GQ) SNORKEL & BREATHERSOn a stock GQ the rear diff breathes near the fuel tank, and the front diff, gearbox and transfer case share one breather in the passenger guard. Raise them all, and raise the engine's intake with a snorkel, before you start fording creeks.
NISSAN PATROL · NISSAN PATROL Y60 (GQ) BAR WORK & RECOVERYA winch-compatible bullbar is close to mandatory in Australia, and 4X4 Australia's project truck found the factory recovery points hard to trust in a bog hole.
NISSAN PATROL · NISSAN PATROL Y60 (GQ) FUEL RANGEA 100-litre tank and a thirsty six don't add up to remote-area range. Long-range main and auxiliary tanks are the classic GQ touring fix.
NISSAN PATROL · NISSAN PATROL Y60 (GQ) MANUAL HUBSAutomatic free-wheeling hubs on ST, Ti and Series 2 trucks are another thing to fail out bush. Many owners convert to manual hubs.
NISSAN PATROL · NISSAN PATROL Y60 (GQ) COOLING & TD42 POWERTurbocharging a TD42 is a well-worn path, but CarsGuide warns it adds heat. Budget for a better radiator before you add boost, and mount any intercooler with airflow in mind.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y61 (GU) SUSPENSION LIFTA 2 in lift with new coils and shocks clears 33s and makes up for touring weight. Plan for caster correction on the radius-arm front axle.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y61 (GU) CASTER & PANHARD CORRECTIONOffset radius-arm bushes restore caster, and an adjustable panhard rod re-centres the axle on taller lifts.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y61 (GU) LOCKERSThe factory LSD gives up on cross-axle climbs. A rear locker is the biggest single traction upgrade, and a front one for serious rock work.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y61 (GU) ENGINE MONITORING (ZD30 / TD42)Boost and EGT gauges are what owners use to keep a ZD30 or a towing TD42 alive.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y61 (GU) BARS, ARMOUR & TOURING GEARThe GU is a touring truck, so bull bars, winches, rock sliders, roof racks and drawers all have a big aftermarket.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y62 / ARMADA SUSPENSION LIFTHBMC trucks need HBMC-specific kits. Ontrack's 2-inch kits use Old Man Emu rear springs, new front control arms and raised bump stops. Non-HBMC trucks can use conventional springs.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y62 / ARMADA UNDERBODY PROTECTIONAluminium plate sets cover the front, sump and transmission and come off quickly for servicing.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y62 / ARMADA TRANSMISSION COOLINGTowing and sand driving cook the fluid. A cooler or a deeper pan adds margin.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y62 / ARMADA GEARING FOR 35sNissan sells front and rear crown-wheel-and-pinion sets for Y62s on 35-inch tyres.
NISSAN PATROL · PATROL Y62 / ARMADA BREATHERS & ELECTRICSRaise the axle, gearbox and transfer breathers before deep water. Add a DC-DC charger and second battery for a fridge.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER CLASSIC SUSPENSION LIFTOld Man Emu springs and shocks add about 1.5 inches of lift and support bumpers, a winch and bigger tyres on 1987–93 coil trucks.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER CLASSIC AIR-TO-COIL CONVERSIONConverting a tired 1993–95 EAS truck to coils makes it simpler and more reliable, and gives a modest lift.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER CLASSIC LOCKERSLockers make up for the open axles when the truck is crossed up and a wheel is in the air.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER CLASSIC TRANSFER CASERebuilt viscous couplings for the Borg Warner case, so the truck stops scrubbing tyres in tight turns.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER CLASSIC POLY BUSHESPolyurethane radius-arm and suspension bushes tighten up a wandering front end; the same parts fit the Defender and Discovery.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER CLASSIC ROOF RACKA Classic-specific full-length cargo rack for overland gear, a spare and a shovel.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER P38A SUSPENSION LIFTLucky8's Terrafirma-based 4-inch coil kit was proven on its P38 'Rhino' project truck and clears tyres up to about 32.5 in. Owners who want to keep air springs run Arnott Gen III springs with longer shocks.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER P38A AIR-TO-COIL CONVERSIONA bolt-in standard-height kit takes the compressor, valve block and air springs out of the equation for remote travel.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER P38A DRIVESHAFTSLifted P38s run steeper driveshaft angles, which causes vibration and wears out U-joints. Double-cardan shafts fix it.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER P38A ARMOR & RECOVERYSteel sliders with tree bars, a winch-ready front bumper and a heavy-duty rear bumper to replace the plastic one.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER P38A GEARING & DIFFSBigger tyres blunt the V8. Heavy-duty 4.10 ring-and-pinion sets restore acceleration and strengthen the diffs.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER P38A WATER & COOLINGA snorkel raises the air intake for wading and dust. An alloy radiator helps keep a hard-working V8 away from liner-slipping temperatures.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER P38A BUSHES & STEERINGFresh polyurethane radius-arm bushes and a Terrafirma steering damper tighten up a tired front end.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L322 SUSPENSION LIFTLonger height-sensor links trick the EAS into running about 2.5 in higher, with no new springs or software needed.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L322 UNDERBODY ARMORA 6 mm alloy sump guard protects the sump, front diff, bumper and radiator, and bolts to the front subframe.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L322 AIR-RIDE RESTORATIONRebuild the EAS once, properly, before a trip: compressor, rear springs and front strut assemblies.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L322 BUSHES & CONTROL ARMSNew front arms and polyurethane bushes cure wander and clonks on high-mileage trucks.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L322 BRAKESThe L322 wears through brakes fast. Full disc-and-pad kits make the 30,000-mile refresh simpler.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L322 ENGINE PREVENTIVE KITSTiming-chain and PCV kits for the BMW 4.4 deal with its two best-known weak spots before they strand you.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L405 SUSPENSION LIFTLift rods for the height sensors raise every air-suspension mode by 1–2 inches with no coding, and keep Terrain Response working.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L405 ARMOUR3/16-inch steel, frame-mounted rock sliders that also shield the vulnerable EAS compressor, plus a front bash plate for the sump and radiator.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L405 WINCH & BARA hidden winch mount that tucks behind the factory bumper on the chassis and tow point, and a frame-mounted A-bar that fits standard and LWB trucks.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L405 COOLING (5.0 SC)Swap the brittle plastic crossover pipes for aluminium before they strand you on a trail, ideally with the water pump and thermostat housing done at the same time.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L405 BUSHES & ARMSPolybushed front lower arms tighten up a clunky, wandering front end on trucks that see rough tracks.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L405 ROOF RACKA full-length 1,358 mm Slimline II tray that clamps onto the factory flush roof rails with no drilling.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L405 DIAGNOSTICSA dealer-level scan tool for air-suspension heights and calibration, service resets and CCF edits. You need it for any serious home wrenching on an L405.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L460 TOWINGA factory-style receiver, harness and towing module to use that 7,716 lb rating; the combo kit fits SWB trucks only and needs your VIN.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L460 20-INCH WHEELSSmaller rims mean more sidewall for gravel and green lanes than the factory 22s and 23s, and more choice of all-terrain tyres. Lucky8 lists these 20×9.5 ET30 wheels for the L460.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L460 DIAGNOSTICS & CCFDealer-level diagnostics at home: EPB service mode, BMS registration, air-suspension heights and calibration, and configuration edits.
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER · RANGE ROVER L460 12-VOLT SUPPORTThe L460's electrics are hungry. Keep the right replacement and charging kit on hand rather than a random jump pack.

SUZUKI SAMURAI & JIMNY · SUZUKI JIMNY LJ SERIES AIR INTAKEA washable performance filter for the LJ80.
SUZUKI SAMURAI & JIMNY · SUZUKI JIMNY LJ SERIES SOFT TOPFresh canvas and seals make an open LJ usable again.
SUZUKI SAMURAI & JIMNY · SUZUKI SJ / SAMURAI SUSPENSION LIFTAn Old Man Emu spring-under kit adds about 2 inches for 29-inch tires. A spring-over (SPOA) conversion gives about 4.5 inches for 31s and is the classic Samurai trail build.
SUZUKI SAMURAI & JIMNY · SUZUKI SJ / SAMURAI TRANSFER CASE GEARSLower transfer case gears are the Samurai's signature crawling mod. Sumo 4.16:1 gears give 84 percent more low-range reduction, and 6.4:1 gears give 181 percent. Brace the case mounts when you fit them.
SUZUKI SAMURAI & JIMNY · SUZUKI SJ / SAMURAI AXLE SWAPToyota axles are wider and stronger and have a deep aftermarket, which is why they're the standard upgrade for big tires.
SUZUKI SAMURAI & JIMNY · SUZUKI SJ / SAMURAI ENGINE SWAPA 1.6 from a Sidekick or Tracker bolts to the same mounts. 2.0 and 2.3 conversions go further.
SUZUKI SAMURAI & JIMNY · SUZUKI SJ / SAMURAI STEERINGKnuckle-over steering puts the drag link above the springs and cures bump steer on spring-over trucks.
