DIY repair · Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer 716 / 718

Brake calipers and master cylinder

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1 hour per caliperCOST An importer offered new OEM calipers at about $70–74 each in 2012

Symptoms

Pulling, a soft pedal, or pitted caliper pistons.

The fix, step by step

  1. When the pistons are pitted it doesn't make sense to rebuild, so fit new calipers (caliper only; the carriers were fine on the trucks one importer stripped).
  2. A 718 takes four left and four right.
  3. If the pedal is soft, rebuild or replace the master cylinder, then bleed the whole system.
