Symptoms
The 4WD or diff lock engages instantly but only releases after a sharp turn.
The fix, step by step
- Check the plastic air lines to the lock box: if the heat shield over the central tube is broken, exhaust heat can melt them.
- Then remove the lock box (two 6 mm screws), open it without tearing the diaphragm, clean corrosion off the pin and case, grease the moving parts and reseal the signal-wire entry.
- Finally check the valves under the centre dash cover and the filter and dryer under the glovebox.
- One owner says internal parts for the box aren't sold separately.
