Lexus LX 600 problems: 8 things to check

The problems owners and specialists flag most on the Lexus LX 600, the repairs they end up doing and what those cost, plus the years and recalls to watch. Sourced, not scraped.

Lexus LX 600 problems to check before you buy

  1. Recall status, in writingRun the VIN for 24V-381 (engine replacement, trucks built July 2021 to November 2022) and 25V-767 (Lexus 25LA07, built February 2022 to April 2024). Get dealer paperwork showing what was done. A replaced engine is a selling point.
  2. Listen for a knockThe recalls list knocking, rough running, a no-start and a loss of power as symptoms. Start it cold and listen at idle and under light load.
  3. Rolling-stop behaviorOwners report a clunk into first gear during rolling stops on 2022–2024 trucks, plus sluggish throttle that eases when the pre-collision system is set to its shortest distance. Test both so you know what's normal for these trucks.
  4. Which grade? The F Sport gets a Torsen rear LSD and a rear stabilizer bar, but also 22-in forged wheels that limit tire choice. Ultra Luxury is a four-seater. US LX 600s have no axle lockers in any grade.
  5. AHC healthCycle through Low, Normal, Hi1 and Hi2 and confirm each height is reached and held. Some trucks were ordered without AHC. Know which one you're buying, because lift options differ.
  6. Tailgate and electronicsAn owner-reported power hatch that beeps and refuses to close was usually a weak key-fob signal or a hatch that needed a manual close to relearn its position. Check that everything works before you assume a fault.
  7. Bulletin and warranty historyAsk for the dealer service history. Lexus has issued bulletins for front-brake squeal on 2022–2024 trucks (L-SB-0036-24), a windshield-molding buzz above 55 mph (L-SB-0019-24) and a head-unit software update for 2022 models (L-SB-0027-24). Work already done under them is a good sign.
  8. Power back doorOpen and close the hatch several times with the button, the key and the kick sensor. If it beeps twice and won't move, suspect a pinch sensor. IH8MUD owners have had them replaced under warranty.

Front brake squeal (bulletin L-SB-0036-24)A squeal from the front brakes when moving forward or in reverse. Owners mostly hear it on the first stops of a cold or humid morning, and it fades once the brakes warm up.2 / 5≈ 2 hours for front pads and rotors (estimate)Covered under the bulletin while in warranty (owner report). Otherwise pads and rotors.
Windshield rattle or buzz at speed (bulletin L-SB-0019-24)A rattle or buzz from the windshield's outer edge molding above about 55 mph. A few minutes to clear leaves from the cowl.Warranty work under the bulletin. Free for the cowl clean-out.
Power back door won't close (pinch sensor)The hatch opens normally, but when you press close it beeps once or twice and won't move, so you have to shut it by hand. The hands-free kick sensor may only beep.2 / 5≈ 5 minutes for the checks. Dealer visit for sensors.Warranty (owner reports)
