Symptoms
The hatch opens normally, but when you press close it beeps once or twice and won't move, so you have to shut it by hand. The hands-free kick sensor may only beep.
The fix, step by step
- Rule out the easy causes first.
- A weak key signal, such as from the credit-card key, can stop it, and a hatch left open for hours can forget its position until you close it by hand once.
- If it keeps happening, have the pinch (touch) sensors along the hatch edges tested.
- Two IH8MUD owners, with a 2023 and a 2024 LX 600, had pinch sensors replaced under warranty, one on the left side and the other on both sides.
- For a kick sensor that only beeps, one owner reset it this way: turn hands-free off in the center console, switch the truck off, open and close the hatch from outside, switch it back on and re-enable hands-free.
- A bike rack over the bumper sensors can also stop it working.
