Symptoms
Black smoke, rough running, carbon build-up in the intake.
The fix, step by step
- On the Delica Canada forum, one owner calls the EGR valve the first suspect on an imported diesel: it's two bolts and a plate.
- Another adds that blanking it isn't the first step.
- Pull the valve, clean the carbon from the valve and its passage, and test the diaphragm with a vacuum tester before you condemn anything.
- Check the intercooler pipes for oil while you're there; oil in them pointed to failing turbo seals in one owner's 2002 van.
