Symptoms
Scaling on the frame rails, rear axle and driveshaft; bubbling around the battery tray and rear bumper.
The fix, step by step
- Pressure-wash the underside and let it dry for a few days.
- Take off the side steps and bumper tube to wire-brush and paint the worst spots.
- A Winnipeg owner says a wire wheel is enough and grinding isn't needed.
- Then spray an inhibitor into every frame and drain hole, using a wand on a flexible extension.
- Remove the spare tire first, because one van that was undercoated with the spare left in place rusted behind the rear bumper.
- Redo it every year.
