Replace leaking injectors (1VD diesel)

DIFFICULTY 5 / 5TIME ≈ A long day or moreCOST About A$4,000 in parts for a DIY job, plus a few thousand more for labor, per Unsealed

Symptoms

Rough idle, smoke, poor fuel economy, sludge in the intake and DPF trouble, often caused by leaking injector seat washers.

The fix, step by step

  1. Unsealed's advice is to replace all eight injectors with updated seat washers rather than one at a time, because single replacements often failed again within months.
  2. Do it under warranty where possible.
  3. Out of warranty, many specialists will do it for less than a dealer.

Tools & part numbers

  • Workshop manual
  • injector puller
  • new injectors and updated washers (all eight)
  • a diagnostic tool to code the injectors.
