Symptoms
Lockers or front drive that are slow to engage or won't engage at all, dark fluid in the reservoir, or seepage at the rubber elbows and T-piece under the reservoir.
The fix, step by step
- Empty the reservoir with a syringe or baster.
- Pull the reservoir and work the cracked rubber elbows and T-piece off the metal lines, then fit new ones with their tube-ring clamps and refill with fresh DOT 3.
- One Portal Hub owner checked a power bleeder held 10 psi, then filled it with DOT 3.
- He dropped each locker lever and opened each slave bleeder until clean fluid ran out.
- Buy spare bleeder valves first: his 4x4 slave's bleeder was so seized that fluid leaked out around the threads.
Tools & part numbers
- Power bleeder (owner used a Motive)
- baster or syringe
- foil drip tray
