Symptoms
Long cranking after the truck has sat for a few days, getting worse over time, and a wet patch under the pump.
The fix, step by step
- Remove the engine cover and air filter.
- Clamp the fuel hoses a few inches from the ends and twist them off the pump, then undo the two 13 mm base nuts and lift the pump, its push rod and the plastic guide out.
- Clean the outside before opening it.
- Replace the diaphragm and gaskets in the top section.
- Then take out the side panel and spring, remove the lever-pivot circlips and fit the new lower parts (the kit includes spare circlips).
- Grease the lever, refit the pump with new gaskets, and crank in 10-second bursts until fuel arrives.
