Symptoms
Overheating, an engine that runs cold, an erratic temperature gauge, or coolant weeping from the front of the engine.
The fix, step by step
- Know your series first.
- Patrolapart lists an 82°C thermostat that needs no gasket for Series 1 and 2 trucks, and an electronically controlled thermostat assembly for Series 3 trucks from February 2016.
- Drain the coolant, replace the thermostat (and the water pump and its separate gasket, if it's leaking or noisy), refill with Nissan blue long-life coolant and bleed the system.
