No-start: brake light switch

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME ≈ 30 minutesCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

The push-button start won't crank the engine, often along with brake lights that don't work.

The fix, step by step

  1. With push-button start, the truck needs a signal that the brake pedal is pressed before it will start.
  2. Patrolapart says that signal comes from the brake light switch on the pedal assembly.
  3. Check the brake lights first.
  4. If they don't work and the truck won't start, unplug the switch at the pedal, remove it, fit the new one and set its adjustment to the manual before reconnecting.
