Symptoms
Harsh or late shifts, flare between gears, or fluid that's dark and smells burnt, especially on a truck that tows.
The fix, step by step
- The RE7 seven-speed uses Nissan Matic-S fluid and has its filter inside the pan.
- Drain the fluid, drop the pan, replace the filter and pan gasket, clean the pan and refit it.
- Refill with Matic-S through the fill plug and set the level using the procedure in the workshop manual, which depends on fluid temperature confirm procedure in manual.
- Owners who tow often fit a deeper cast pan (Patrolapart's adds 3 L) and an auxiliary cooler.
