Front inner CV boot

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ 3 hours per sideCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Grease flung around the inside of the wheel or on the suspension, or a clicking CV joint on full lock.

The fix, step by step

  1. Replace a split boot before dirt gets into the joint.
  2. Remove the driveshaft from the hub and diff, cut off the old boot, clean out the old grease, pack the joint with the sachet of CV grease supplied, and fit the new boot and clamps.
  3. Patrolapart says lifted trucks put extra strain on the boots.
