Symptoms
A loud knock when cold, poor fuel economy, rough or erratic idle, and rough running under load. AustralianCar.Reviews puts typical failure at 120,000–140,000 km, but has seen them go at 75,000.
The fix, step by step
- Have a diesel specialist test the injectors first.
- Unsealed 4X4 says to repair or replace any that fail.
- Replace them as a set with new seats and O-rings, and new high-pressure lines if you buy the kit, then clear the codes and road-test.
- AustralianCar.Reviews links worn injectors on the 2006–09 Euro IV engine to cracked pistons, which is why it suggests servicing them every 100,000 km.
