Make room for 35s

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ Half a day plus alignmentCOST Wheels and tires plus labor

Symptoms

Rubbing at full lock or compression after fitting tires over about 33 inches.

The fix, step by step

  1. Threepiece's fitment guide: remove the mud flaps, crush brackets and canards (they bolt or clip on and can go back later).
  2. Invert and heat-form the plastic fender liners.
  3. If you still need room, radius the back of the front fenders or trim a few inches from the front bumper.
  4. Offset matters: the guide's 35-inch example on a stock-height 1958 used 17x8 +25 wheels, and it warns that near-zero offsets add a lot of poke.
  5. Get an alignment afterwards.
