Symptoms
Clunks over bumps, vague steering, a truck that leans or sits low on one side, or cracked rubber at the spring eyes and shackles.
The fix, step by step
- Support the frame and take the weight off one spring at a time.
- Remove the shackle and eye bolts, burn or press out the old bushings and fit the new ones.
- Offroad Design's leaf-spring bushing page lists which bushing fits each spring position.
- If the truck leans, ORD's advice is to measure the free arch of the springs on the floor and swap them side to side before blaming the spring rate.
- Torque the bolts with the truck at ride height.
