Fluids, capacities & service intervals
The L460 is new enough that most trucks will have dealer history. Still, the first job is the recall and software status, because several known faults (DC-DC converter, battery drain) are fixed by updates. Fluid specs differ by powertrain (Ingenium I6 diesel or petrol, BMW V8, PHEV) and the BorgWarner transfer box takes its own fluid, so read the owner's handbook for your VIN rather than reusing L405 figures.
| ITEM | SPEC / CAPACITY | INTERVAL | NOTES & PARTS |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recalls & software updates | NHTSA recall lookup by VIN, plus dealer / over-the-air software status | At purchase, then whenever a campaign is announced | Recalls 26V248000 and 26V599000 (US) add central software updates so the 48 V–12 V converter doesn't overload, and door-module and RFA updates have cured some battery drains. All are free and stop expensive failures.GAP IIDTool BT G4 (reads all modules on DoIP trucks) · Lucky8 ↗ |
| Engine oil & filter | D300/D350 Ingenium diesel: 0W-30 to STJLR.03.5007, about 9 L (owner report) · Petrol I6 / PHEV / V8: confirm in manual | The 2024MY D350 schedule is 10,500 mi or 12 months. Many owners change sooner. | Lubricate both sealing rings on the cartridge filter's neck before fitting, because a dry filter can twist. | Transfer box | About 2 L of the Land Rover-specified fluid for this BorgWarner unit · confirm in manual | About 60,000 mi (owner suggestion) | Forum members argue about it. One experienced owner insists that TF 0753 (the Magna Steyr fluid used in earlier Range Rovers) is the wrong oil for the L460's transfer box. Use the handbook fluid.L460 transfer case fluid (search) · Atlantic British ↗ |
| Front axle disconnect & active rear differential | One owner reports the front-axle disconnect clutch uses the same fluid as the Electronic Active Differential · confirm in manual | About 60,000 mi (owner suggestion) | SE trims in the US may have an open rear diff with brake-based torque vectoring, so check which you have before ordering fluid.L460 differential fluid (search) · Atlantic British ↗ |
| Brakes | Pads, rotors and brake fluid · fluid confirm in manual | Inspect at purchase.
