DIY repair · Land Rover Range Rover P38A

Front suspension bushes and ball joints

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME 4–6 hours for all four ball jointsCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Vague steering, wander, clonks over bumps, uneven tyre wear. The front usually wears out first.

The fix, step by step

  1. Replace the radius arm bushes and the swivel ball joints, which need a special press tool.
  2. Polyurethane bush kits such as Polybush are popular.
  3. Use poly at both ends of the truck, and don't put poly in the Panhard rod.
  4. Check the dampers, drop links and ABS sensors while you're there.
