DIY repair · Land Rover Range Rover L322

ZF six-speed transmission service (2006–2012)

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1 hour (owner estimate; one dealer quoted 7 hours)COST About $280 for the kit

Symptoms

Slow or harsh shifts, fluid weeping from the valve-body connector sleeve, or a high-mileage 'sealed for life' gearbox that has never been serviced.

The fix, step by step

  1. Drop the pan with its integral filter, replace the leak-prone valve-body sleeve, fit a new pan and gasket, and refill with ZF Lifeguard fluid to the correct level.
  2. Atlantic British recommends doing it every 60,000 miles.
  3. Some owners also fit new valve-body 'bridge' seals as preventive maintenance.
