Ride height sensor replacement (2003–2005)

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME VariesCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

The air suspension won't change height or adjusts erratically, often with no stored fault codes. The sensor pivots seize, and cracked rear sensor bodies let water in, which corrupts the readings.

The fix, step by step

  1. Rear: the sensor sits against the rear subframe on the lower control arm.
  2. Clean and unplug the connector.
  3. Undo the 13 mm-head bolt and nut that hold the link to the arm, then remove the two screws holding the sensor to its bracket (they're often rusted, so use penetrating oil and locking pliers).
  4. Fit the new rubber-bushed sensor with its new screws, check that the arm moves freely, refit the nut while holding it with a 10 mm spanner, and pack the connector with dielectric grease.
  5. The front sensors are done the same way.
