Symptoms
A rattle on cold starts from worn tensioner-to-guide contact. Ignore it and the chain can jump timing or snap.
The fix, step by step
- Atlantic British says this job is not recommended for DIY.
- It means stripping the front of the engine, replacing all three chains, the guides, shoes and tensioners, and usually the water pump, thermostat and cam sprockets as well.
- Fit the updated parts and keep the receipts, because buyers will ask for them.
