DIY repair · Mitsubishi Pajero / Montero (First Generation)

Set the front ride height at the torsion bars

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1 hour plus an alignmentCOST Free to adjust

Symptoms

A nose-down stance, or one front corner lower than the other. Like every Pajero up to 1999, the first generation has double-wishbone front suspension on torsion bars.

The fix, step by step

  1. With the truck on level ground, measure the front ride height on both sides.
  2. Turn the torsion-bar adjusters evenly to raise the low side, settle the suspension and measure again.
  3. Clean and anti-seize the adjuster threads.
  4. Get an alignment afterwards.
  5. If the bars are badly sagged or you carry a heavy bar and winch, replace them rather than winding them up further.
