Td5 injector harness replacement

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 2 hoursCOST Harness about £30 (discovery2.co.uk); ECU-plug cleaning included

Symptoms

Oil inside the red ECU plug, poor starting, misfires or rough running, injector fault codes.

The fix, step by step

  1. Disconnect the battery and lift the ECU out to check the plugs; clean oil out of the connector with a fast-drying solvent.
  2. Remove the acoustic cover and rocker cover, unclip the five injector plugs and the plug where the main loom meets the injector harness, and lift the harness out.
  3. Clean the bore where the harness connector seals into the head, fit the later modified harness with new O-rings, clip everything home and refit the rocker cover with a new gasket.
  4. Some owners also flush oil out of the main loom with solvent.
