Symptoms
The rear sags overnight or when parked, then pumps back up; the compressor runs for long periods. Ignored leaks burn out the compressor.
The fix, step by step
- Chock the front wheels, support the chassis by the rear radius-arm mounts and the axle on jacks, and remove the wheels.
- Open the compressor box on the chassis rail and slowly crack the two outer air unions (not the middle one) to deflate.
- Pop the retaining clips, collapse the spring, undo its air union, rotate it 90 degrees and lift it out.
- Replace both sides.
- To convert instead, fit Discovery 2 (not Discovery 1) spring seats, coils and shocks, and have the SLS switched off with a diagnostic tool.
Tools & part numbers
- Trolley jack, axle stands, 10 mm spanner, spring compressor for coils
- air springs and clips, or a conversion kit
