Symptoms
Diesel leaking from the back of the engine on the driver's side; fuel smell.
The fix, step by step
- Remove the acoustic cover and the engine lifting bracket for room.
- Loosen the top two bolts, unplug the sensor, remove the hidden bottom bolt with a long extension, then release the two quick-release fuel pipes and the last bolt.
- Don't lose the small gauze filter and O-ring behind the regulator.
- Fit a new gasket and O-ring, torque the three bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft), reconnect and prime the system.
- Order the regulator by chassis number: the 2003-on version has an extra return pipe.
