Fix power-steering leaks

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ Half a dayCOST Seals or a rebuilt box/pump

Symptoms

Fluid on the driver's-side axle and spring, low fluid, or a groaning pump.

The fix, step by step

  1. Clean everything and find the source: the steering box, the pump or a hose.
  2. Replace hoses first, since they're cheapest.
  3. A leaking box needs resealing or a rebuilt unit, after which you refill and bleed by turning lock to lock with the engine running.
