Water pump rebuild

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ Half a dayCOST About $125 for a professional rebuild (IH8MUD member report)

Symptoms

Weeping from the pump weep hole, a growling bearing or wobble at the fan.

The fix, step by step

  1. New early pumps are hard to find, so owners rebuild the original.
  2. One IH8MUD member found that the early pump bearing (Toyota 90369-30008, cross-referenced as Koyo 885141 / FAG W2503) is the same bearing used in the Willys Jeep pump, and that Jeep rebuild kits (BB707) supply the bearing and seal.
  3. Others send pumps to a water-pump rebuilder; one member reported about $125.
  4. Fit a new bypass hose while it's apart.
