Symptoms
Scheduled service. One IH8MUD owner also reported less low-speed 'rocking' in traffic after changing the transfer-case fluid at 19,500 miles.
The fix, step by step
- Remove the skid plate (two bolts to loosen, per one owner).
- Always remove the fill plug first, then drain and refill.
- Figures an owner posted from the service data: transfer case 1.89 qt, plugs 37 N·m (27 ft-lb); front diff 1.23 qt, plugs 39.2 N·m (29 ft-lb); rear diff (with limited-slip) plugs 49 N·m (36 ft-lb).
- The factory transfer-case fluid is Toyota LF 75W.
- While the skid is off, grease the driveshaft zerks.
