Rear hatch won't close

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1 hourCOST Pinch sensor plus labor

Symptoms

You press the hatch button, it beeps once as if it's going to close, then beeps twice and doesn't move.

The fix, step by step

  1. First, clean the rubber pinch strips along both sides of the hatch opening and check nothing is caught in them.
  2. On the IH8MUD owner's truck the left-side pinch sensor was sticking, and replacing it fixed the problem.
  3. Under warranty, let the dealer do it.
