DIY repair · Jeep Wagoneer & Grand Wagoneer (WS)

Service the front and rear differentials

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1–1.5 hoursCOST Parts only: about 5–6 pints of synthetic 75W-85

Symptoms

Unknown history, a deep water crossing, or towing. You may hear whine or chatter in tight turns from the electronic LSD.

The fix, step by step

  1. Both axles take synthetic 75W-85 GL-5.
  2. AMSOIL lists the 215FD front at 2.3 pints and the 260RDU rear at 3 pints on Hurricane and 6.4 trucks (its 2022 5.7 entry shows 2.3 pints without ELSD and 2.7 with).
  3. Remove the fill plug first so you know you can refill, then drain, refit the drain plug and fill to the bottom of the fill hole.
  4. The owner's manual calls for friction-modified 75W-85 in the rear, whether it has the electronic LSD or a mechanical LSD.
  5. AMSOIL's lookups cite Mopar 75W-85 with modifier (P/N 68083381AA), but its entries disagree on which rear axle needs it, so check the part number with the dealer.
