Engine air filter and Hurricane spark plugs

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5 (filter) · 3 / 5 (plugs)TIME ≈ 10 minutes (filter) · 1–2 hours (plugs)COST Parts only

Symptoms

Dusty-road use, a misfire code or an unknown history.

The fix, step by step

  1. The air filter is a tool-free job: unclip the airbox, swap the element and wipe out the housing.
  2. On the Hurricane, take off the engine cover and the coils to reach the plugs, blow debris out of the wells before removing each plug, and torque the new plugs to the service-manual figure.
  3. The owner's-manual maintenance plan replaces the Hurricane's plugs every 60,000 miles, on mileage alone.
