Blank screens and glitches: updates and the battery

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME ≈ 30 minutes to an hourCOST Free under warranty; a battery if it's weak

Symptoms

A blank or unresponsive 10.1- or 12-inch center screen, a rear camera that doesn't show, Wi-Fi or remote functions dead, or warning messages after a short drive.

The fix, step by step

  1. Check the battery first, because low voltage causes all kinds of module faults.
  2. Test it, then clean and tighten the terminals.
  3. Next, look for over-the-air radio updates in Uconnect settings.
  4. FCA also has a bulletin on how to install them.
  5. Bulletins for dealer flashes include TSB 08-039-22 for blank center screens, which FCA says must be done before the display is replaced, plus 08-202-22 for the power-steering module and 08-173-21 for the telematics box.
  6. Several camera faults are recalls rather than TSBs, so run the VIN.
