DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME ≈ 45 minutesCOST MotorTrend paid $156.79 and $173.90 for dealer 10k and 20k services, including a tire rotation

Symptoms

The oil-life monitor is due, or the history is unknown.

The fix, step by step

  1. Warm the engine, lift the truck safely and drain the oil.
  2. AMSOIL lists drain-plug torque at 20 ft-lb on the 3.0 Hurricane and 25 ft-lb on the 6.4.
  3. Fit the correct filter: AMSOIL lists WIX WL10255 for the standard-output 3.0, WIX 57045 for the high-output 3.0 and WIX 57060 for the 5.7 and 6.4.
  4. Refill with the correct grade: 0W-20 (MS-6395) for the 5.7 and the standard-output 3.0, or 0W-40 (MS-A0921) for the 6.4 and the high-output 3.0.
  5. Capacity is 7 qt for the V8s and 7.5 qt for the Hurricane.
