Symptoms
Stalling, hard starting or a diesel smell on a 2021–2023 EcoDiesel. NHTSA recalls 22V-767 and 23V-263 cover high-pressure fuel pumps that may fail and stall the engine.
The fix, step by step
- Confirm both recalls are closed.
- Then treat the fuel filter as a wear item, because the high-pressure pump is sensitive to water and dirt.
- Relieve fuel pressure, replace the filter element and seals, prime the system as the service manual describes, and check for leaks.
- Drain water from the separator if the warning light comes on.
