Symptoms
Front-end shimmy or full death wobble after a bump at highway speed, or a steering wheel that shakes side to side. JeepGladiatorForum owners report dealers finding a weak damper or play in the steering box.
The fix, step by step
- Inspect before you buy parts.
- With the truck on its wheels and the engine running, have a helper rock the steering wheel while you watch both ends of the front track bar, the tie-rod and drag-link ends, the pitman arm and the steering box mounting.
- Check ball joints and wheel bearings with the front end raised.
- Replace what's worn, torque the suspension at ride height, then get an alignment.
- A new damper helps a weak original, but on its own it only hides wobble.
- On lifted trucks, an adjustable track bar re-centers the axle.
