Viscous fan clutch (M113 G 500)

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1–2 hours (estimate)COST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Temperature climbs in traffic or on slow trails, or the fan freewheels easily with a hot engine (or roars all the time).

The fix, step by step

  1. With the engine cold, check the fan for wobble and how it resists turning.
  2. Hold the pulley and undo the fan clutch from its hub, fit the new clutch and refit the shroud.
  3. G-luxe Travel's 'How I won the battle with my viscous fan' covers the G 500 job.
