Symptoms
Not a fault, but the upgrade owners make most often for traction: the front axle is open, and only some vans have a rear LSD.
The fix, step by step
- LOKKA lists an automatic front locker for the 1987–94 L300.
- Growlerbearnz removes the front diff without disturbing the alignment by taking off the left knuckle and loosening the left rear-subframe nuts; he reckons the removal takes about an hour without seized bolts.
- Measure backlash and the tooth pattern before you strip it, and keep shims and bearing caps in order.
- Fit the locker, then check the inter-cam clearance (0.145–0.165 in, per his write-up).
- He lists part numbers for a 1991 P25W: shim kit MB185519, cross pin MB241909, drive-shaft seals MB290013 (two), side bearings MB092348 and cover gasket MB160579.
