Water in the liftgate (weep-hole plugs)

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME ≈ 10 minutesCOST Free

Symptoms

Water sloshing inside the liftgate or dripping from the inner panel with the gate open, after rain or a wash.

The fix, step by step

  1. Under the liftgate, find the small rubber plugs in the drain holes and pull them so water can escape — a 4Runner6G.com owner had water gush out.
  2. Leave the large centre plug in place; another owner points out it's an access hole, not a drain.
