Propeller shaft greasing

DIFFICULTY 1 / 5TIME ≈ 1 hourCOST A tube of grease

Symptoms

Part of dusty-road and towing maintenance. Owners count five zerks on a 4WD truck.

The fix, step by step

  1. Grease both spider joints on each shaft and the front slip yoke (a couple of short pumps only; over-packing a slip yoke is bad).
  2. The rear slip yoke is booted with no zerk, so servicing it means dropping the shaft.
  3. Wipe off excess grease.
