Range Rover L460 years to avoid, and the best years to buy

Every Land Rover Range Rover L460 model year: which ones owners and specialists recommend, which have documented problems, which carry recalls, and what they sell for now.

The short answer

Too early to call. NHTSA lists ten or eleven recalls for each of the 2022, 2023 and 2024 model years, so later trucks aren't clean either: 2022–23 carry the cam-carrier, seat-frame and tail-light campaigns, and 2024 adds panel-bonding, transmission and oil-filter-housing recalls. Owners prefer the 2024-on S68 V8. Buy on a closed recall list, a warranty and software that actually updates, not on the model year.

YEARVERDICTWHAT CHANGED
2021—Revealed on 26 October 2021 at the Royal Opera House in London. MLA-Flex platform, the first Land Rover with all-wheel steering, and BMW's N63 4.4 V8 in the P530.
2022—Production at Solihull from mid-2022. Launch engines: P360/P400 I6 mild hybrids, P530 V8, and P440e/P510e plug-in hybrids (diesels outside the US). A seven-seat LWB followed shortly after launch. Owners say many early trucks were delivered with options deleted during the parts shortage.
2022–23—Early trucks carry the most open campaigns: seven-seat frame welds, tail-light links, rear-camera water ingress, the cam-carrier oil channel and the armrest latch. Run the VIN.
2024—P550e replaces the P440e and the 615 PS SV arrives. BMW's S68 V8 replaces the N63, and owners rate it more refined. Physical HVAC controls are removed. 2024 trucks have their own recalls (panel bonding, transmission oil pressure, oil filter housing)
2024—JLR announces local Range Rover assembly in Pune, India (May 2024).
2026—Range Rover Electric unveiled on 2 September 2026 after repeated delays: 800 V, twin 260 kW motors and a 118.5 kWh battery.
2027—Range Rover Electric goes on sale in the US as a 2027 model, with 333 miles of EPA range, a 900 mm wading depth and a 5,511 lb towing rating.

“Sweet spot” means owners and specialists recommend those years; “Beware” means documented problems; “Recall” means check the recall was done rather than walk away.
