Free up and protect the rear-door hinges

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME An afternoonCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Rear doors that sag, bind or don't latch properly. Isuzu's 1992 recall (92V093) covered 1984–87 trucks for exactly this in salt-belt states.

The fix, step by step

  1. Support each door before you work on it.
  2. Soak the hinge pins with penetrating oil, work them free, clean the knuckles and grease them.
  3. Treat rust around the hinge mounts and the bottom of the door shells.
  4. Then adjust the latch strikers so each door closes positively, with no false latch.
