Renew radius-arm bushes and check the axle mounts

DIFFICULTY 3 / 5TIME ≈ Half a dayCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

A clunk when letting the clutch up, vague steering, or cracked and split bushes you can open with a screwdriver.

The fix, step by step

  1. Unbolt the arms and inspect the mounts on the axle and chassis: BigJimny notes they're thin, wear oval, and on older trucks can corrode and tear off entirely.
  2. Press new bushes into the arms (nylon SuperPro-type bushes are easier to fit but ride firmer), check the arms against a straight edge for bends, and torque the bolts with the truck at ride height.
