Chase down a death wobble that isn't the kingpins

DIFFICULTY 2 / 5TIME ≈ 1–3 hours per itemCOST Parts plus labor

Symptoms

Wobble remains after new kingpin bearings, or a sloppy, wandering feel at speed.

The fix, step by step

  1. Work through BigJimny's list in order: worn tie-rod ends (one standard and one reverse thread per rod), worn radius-arm bushes (most often the chassis end of the front arms), wheel balance (beads help with chunky mud tires), and rust on the hub face behind the brake disc that stops the disc and wheel seating square.
  2. Warped discs can mimic it too.

Tools & part numbers

  • Tie-rod end puller
  • bush press or drawbolt kit
  • wire brush for hub faces
  • alignment afterward.
