Symptoms
Bubbling under the doors, soft or holed floors, a sagging door opening, water on the carpets, and rust at the rear spring mounts and rear crossmember.
The fix, step by step
- Strip the interior and probe everything with a pick or screwdriver.
- Support the door openings before cutting out any rocker or floor structure, then cut back to clean metal.
- Anything Scout advises leaving a 1–2 inch lip of the old floor for a new pan to rest on.
- Weld in the floor pans, rocker panels, door-post braces and, if needed, the rear floor sill crossmember.
- Seam-seal and coat the new metal.
- If the inner rockers and rear crossmember are badly gone, Corsetti Cruisers says a frame-off restoration is often the better long-term answer.
