Symptoms
A tired stance, clunks from worn spring eyes and shackles, and the choppy ride of forward-shackle front springs.
The fix, step by step
- Replace the springs, shackles, bushings, U-bolts and shocks as a set.
- IH Parts America says its CPT system for 1961–71 Scouts nets 1 to 3 inches of lift, about 2 inches on most trucks.
- It includes heavy-duty springs, 4-inch shackles, 1/2-inch U-bolts, 2-degree caster shims, Bilstein shocks and an extended rear brake hose.
- You may need to notch around the front driveshaft and transmission crossmember and enlarge the U-bolt plate holes.
- For a better ride, CPT's reverse-shackle kit moves the front shackle.
- It needs welding and drilling through the frame, and a longer-travel front driveshaft is recommended.
Tools & part numbers
