Symptoms
Four-wheel drums that fade, pull or simply don't stop a V8 Scout on modern roads.
The fix, step by step
- The CPT kit sold by IH Parts America for 1966–71 800s with Dana 27 or 30 front axles includes new hubs, 11 3/4-inch vented rotors, caliper brackets, calipers, pads, stainless hoses, a disc/drum master cylinder, a proportioning valve and a pushrod.
- It reuses your wheel bearings, and the knuckles must be ground for caliper clearance.
- It replaces the dual-circuit master cylinder found on 1967 and later 800s.
- Single-circuit trucks and Scout 80s need extra hard lines.
- Some stock 15- and 16-inch drum-brake wheels won't clear the calipers.
- Bleed the whole system afterwards.
