Symptoms
Tyres scrub or chirp on tight, slow turns; premature tyre wear on the edges; the truck needs a lot of throttle in slow, tight corners; driveline wind-up. A jacked-up wheel won't turn by hand.
The fix, step by step
- Confirm the diagnosis: transfer case in neutral, handbrake on, jack one front wheel — it should turn slowly with resistance.
- If it is locked solid, replace the coupling before it damages the diffs or CV joints.
- One owner swapped it with the transfer box still in the truck in about three hours.
