Symptoms
A squeal from the front brakes when driving forward or in reverse. Lexus bulletin L-SB-0036-24 covers it on some 2024 GX 550s. Owners of the twin LC250 on LandCruiserForum mostly hear it first thing in the morning, or when it's cold and humid.
The fix, step by step
- If the truck is under warranty, start at the dealer and ask about L-SB-0036-24.
- A LandCruiserForum member said the bulletin repair is almost a carbon copy of a Tundra fix.
- On the LC250, where a Toyota representative said there was no Toyota-side bulletin, one dealer replaced the front pads, rotors and pad shims under warranty.
- Some owners found the squeal faded after a series of moderate-to-hard stops, but for others it came back.
- For your own checks, the Lexus schedule inspects pads and discs every 5,000 miles.
- The owner's manual gives a pad wear limit of 0.04 in (1 mm) and accepts DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid.
- It also says the reservoir level drops slightly as the pads wear.
- Torque the wheel nuts to 97 ft-lb and recheck them after 1,000 miles.
Tools & part numbers
- Torque wrench to 100 ft-lb
- caliper piston tool or large C-clamp
- brake cleaner
- pad-slide grease
- fluid baster for the reservoir
