Symptoms
Weak airflow from the vents, a musty smell, a dusty filter after trail miles, or wipers that streak. The 2024 Lexus schedule replaces both the engine air filter and the cabin air filter every 30,000 miles and inspects the wiper blades at every service.
The fix, step by step
- Cabin filter, from the owner's manual: turn the engine switch off, open the glove box and lift out its removable tray, then remove the panel behind it.
- Unlock the filter cover, ease it out of its claws without forcing them, and pull out the filter case.
- Fit the new filter so the 'UP' marks on the filter and the case both point up.
- Lexus warns against running the A/C with no filter in place.
- Engine air: the manual doesn't give a procedure, but it does warn that driving with the air cleaner filter removed can cause excessive engine wear.
- K&N's fitment listing for the 3.4 V6 says two filters are required, so plan on buying a pair.
- On a dusty trip, check them more often than the 30,000-mile interval.
